What’s Hot Central Florida 03/20 – 03/26
Hi guys! How many of you get a chance to travel to the Space Coast? This week I am working over here while I get to visit a close friend in Melbourne. I hear that one of my Orlando divas, Page King, is going to make an appearance at Cold Keg Nightclub. I hope I get to see her! If I do, you’ll see a photo of us in the column next week. I love being able to see all of what Central Florida has to offer, and I can honestly say “Oh, this is for work!” It’s a blessing. So without further ado, here are some very important events this week. Lots of love to you all!
Thursday March 20
Who doesn’t appreciate sexy men taking off their clothes? I know I do, and I know Joey Brooks does. She is the host of the Thursday night strip contest at Bradley’s on 7th in Tampa. $200 goes to the winner! The contest starts at midnight in the back bar. Music by DJ Don Lamb.
She’s coming in like a wrecking ball! Gossip mag favorite and former Disney queen Miley Cyrus will be performing at the Tampa Bay Times Forum tonight at 7 p.m. This tour date is part of her Bangerz Tour. Want to see her in Orlando? She’ll be performing on March 24 at 7 p.m. at the Amway Center.
RuPaul’s Drag Race favorite Alexis Mateo, along with Dédé Taylor, Genesis Nicole Vanity, Viktoria Vanity Sommers and Cherilyn Matthews make up the Diamond Divas troupe, and they perform every Thursday at Sun on the Beach on Irlo Bronson Parkway in Kissimmee. Showtime is promptly at midnight.
Friday March 21
As you may have seen in last week’s issue, BarCodes in Orlando will be celebrating their fifth anniversary this weekend. The Hope and Help Center of Central Florida will be providing free, fast HIV testing on-site at BarCodes starting at 9 p.m. Know your status in just 15 minutes! Stay at BarCodes for the camaraderie and prize giveaways!
The Code: bar at the Flamingo Resort in St. Petersburg will play host to the Mr. Code Florida Leather Contest. Tonight, participate in a meet and greet with judges and contestants. Tomorrow night, please take your seat and be an audience member at the contest. It starts at 8 p.m. May the hottest man in the best harness win!
Saturday March 22
The legendary Chi Chi Larue brings the Erotica event back to Parliament House in Orlando. In tow are two positively sexy Raging Stallion adult stars, Shawn Wolfe and Christopher Daniels. Come for the celebs, stay for the erotic vendor fair, meet and greet, and foam party.
We’re only a few episodes in but I’m liking Ben de la Creme‘s moxie. The RuPaul’s Drag Race season six contestant will be making her Central Florida debut at Liquid Tampa this evening, with a special show at midnight. Free cover if you enter between 9 and 10 p.m. For special VIP meet and greet opportunities, visit bendelacremeliquid.eventbrite.com.
The Orlando Gay Chorus is organizing a new fundraising event called “Movies Under the Stars.” The movie they will be showing is the Rock Hudson/Doris Day classic “Pillow Talk.” It’s no coincidence that Pillow Talk is also the name of their upcoming spring concert in May. Tickets are $10 and all proceeds go to the Chorus. The movie starts at 6 p.m. at the First United Church of Christ on Curry Ford Road.
Sunday March 23
Gypsy Stage Repertory Company will put on a production of Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple.” A portion of the proceeds will benefit Metro Wellness and Community Centers. Tickets are $20 at the door (at Metro’s 3rd Avenue North location in St. Petersburg). The play is a matinee and starts at 2 p.m.
Wednesday March 26
Michael Vacirca will be representing the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida at an LGBTQ Employer Panel held at the University of Central Florida’s Student Union (Cape Florida Room 316A). Employees from NASA, Darden Restaurants and Lockheed Martin will also be in attendance and will discuss the benefits of being out in the workplace. This panel will last from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
