The fledgling “Down in Front Theater Company presents “Visiting Mr. Green”, a play by Jeff Baron,  beginning June 7.

Gay people know that we sometimes find our friends and “family” in the most unlikely situations.  In “Visiting Mr. Green” an elderly conservative Jewish Manhattanite has retreated from life after his wife’s death, and he’s letting himself and his apartment go to ruin. Then chance brings a younger “type-A” gay corporate executive — lonely too but instinctively nurturing — into his life.  In the soul-searching moments that follow, the men sort through family and social issues: children who don’t grow up according to parents’ plans, the value of tradition versus the benefit of rethinking old rules.   “Visiting Mr. Green” is an often funny and heartwarming story of how two unlikely soles become best friends and help each other learn and grow.

The show is directed by M.J. Baum and features seasoned local actors Bill Roach as Mr. Green and John Hernandez as Ross Gardiner.  The show runs Saturday and Sundays (only) from June 7 through June 22, 2014.  The Saturday shows are at 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm.  The Sunday shows are at 4:30 pm.  “Down in Front Theater Company” is housed at the Soreff JCC Complex at 6501 West Sunrise Boulevard, Plantation, Florida 33313.

Stonewall National Museum and Archives presents Days Without Sunshine: Anita Bryant’s Anti-Gay Crusade at their Wilton Manors Gallery. In 1977 the Metropolitan Dade County Commission added ‘sexual preference’ to its existing ordinance banning discrimination in employment, housing and public services. Anita Bryant was instrumental in repealing the gay-rights referendum. It’s taken decades of effort, but LGBT people have made tremendous gains in equality, including more states allowing same-sex marriage. But we still face discrimination and bullying on many levels. The exhibit Days without Sunshine, in reminding us how far we’ve come, lets us know there’s still more to do. Explore a history of Anita Bryant’s campaign and the response it drew from community LGBT activists. Also included is an exhibit on the history and formation of the organization SAVE Dade.

Congratulations go out to the FTL Village Pub Underdogs (3rd in Division D) as well as the FTL Felicias (4th in Division C) at the Atlanta Big Peach Softball Tournament.

PARTY GROOVE: GAY DAYS Vol. 11 is the official CD from GAY DAYS Orlando and is mixed by whsf_thisBillboard reporting DJ Randy Bettis.  Randy has selected a fantastic mix of songs ranging from current hits climbing the Billboard Dance Chart, pop megahits remixed for our gay dance floors, and all-time classics. Martha Wash delivers her latest hit “I’m Not Coming Down” which is the fastest rising song on the Billboard Dance Chart – expect a number 1 hit from this song.  Jason Walker (a multiple # 1 artist) has teamed with Bimbo Jones to remake the Taylor Dayne classic “Tell It To My Heart” – Jason’s soaring vocals match those of Taylor and the new remixes have made this song a big current hit on the charts.  Legendary DJ-Producer Tony Moran has contributed several songs to this year’s GAY DAYS CD, including his new track “Take It All Away” with mega-producer Todd Terry.  No Gay Days CD would be complete without a strong presence of remixed pop records – DJ Randy Bettis here features “Happy” (Pharrell Williams), “Dark Horse” (Katy Perry), “Live It Up” (J Lo), “Best Day Of My Life” (American Authors), and “Drunk In Love” (Beyonce).  Two beautiful, stellar new releases end the CD – Peyton’s “Let Your Soul Be Your Pilot” and Brian Kennedy’s all-time classic “Life, Love & Happiness”.  This is a fun, vocal, dance CD from start to finish and destined to be a favorite.  GAY DAYS Vol. 11 will be sold exclusively at the GAY DAYS Expo in Orlando starting June 5th, and then nationwide starting Tuesday, June 10th on iTunes, Amazon, and TheOutClub.com.
