THOUSANDS OF HOT MEN ENJOY SOBE’S SUN AND NIGHTLIFE

JULY 17-20, 2014

Miami Beach Bruthaz (MBB) returns for its eighth year, complete with a full slate of activities for the thousands of African-American and Latino people from all over the country ready to converge on South Beach. This yearly event was started back in 2006 as a “summer lifestyle event,” and it has grown beyond the wildest expectations of its organizers.

This year, the theme of Miami Beach Bruthaz is “Knowledge, Culture, Fashion,” and organizers say that the events tied to the theme this year will “promote unity, camaraderie, empowerment, emotional well being and a sense of belonging among its attendees.” The eighth annual event will be held this year from Thursday, July 17, through Sunday, July 20. This year the host hotel is The Congress Hotel (1052 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach). mbb_1

Here’s a calendar of events that Miami Beach Bruthaz will be bringing you this year. Remember, you can purchase tickets to these events online (the all-access pass costs $112), in person at the door of each event, or during the weekend by going to the LGBT Welcome Center (1130 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach) on Thursday, July 17 and Friday, July 18 from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Thursday, July 17: There will be a Miami Beach Bruthaz Pre-Game Reception at The C-Lounge inside The Congress Hotel. This mixer starts at 6 p.m. and will go until 8 p.m. and features a cash bar. Afterwards, from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m., there is a White Masquerade Party at The Rooftop at The Congress Hotel. Tickets cost $20 and food is included in the ticket price.

Friday, July 18: MBB attendees are taking over South Beach their way! Explore the area and meet up back at The C Lounge for the Pre-Game Reception at 6 p.m. Afterwards, Skyline (645 Washington Avenue) hosts “Hip Hop HookUP: Part 1,” hosted by MBB and EVO Miami. Tickets are $20 and the party starts at 11 p.m.

Saturday, July 19: MBB hosts a rooftop pool party and a men’s swimwear and underwear fashion show poolside at The Congress Hotel. It all goes down between noon and 8 p.m. Light food is included in the ticket price, which is $20. Choose between two parties tonight, both of which start at 11 p.m. Score (1437 Washington Avenue) presents Carnaval! featuring the progressive tribal beats of DJ Bruno Pacheco from São Paulo, Brazil. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at the door. MBB & EVO Miami present “Hip Hop HookUP: Part 2” as well, this time at Mekka (950 NE 2nd Avenue, Miami). Tickets are $20.

Sunday, July 20: Join MBB for the Florida premiere of “You Are Not Alone,” a documentary dealing with an important topic that is seldomly openly discussed: gay black men and depression. Showtime is 2 p.m. at the Miami Beach Cinematheque (1130 Washington Avenue). Tickets are $20. Brunch and a “Bruthaz SpeakUp” panel discussion follows the screening.
