Florida Performances Start October 21
Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella, the 2013 Tony Award®-winning Broadway musical from the creators of South Pacific and The Sound of Music, will make three stops in the state of Florida.
The first stop is Tampa, where the musical will play at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts’ Morsani Hall from October 21-26, as part of the Bank of America Best of Broadway Tampa Bay series. The touring production then moves on to Miami, playing at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts’ Ziff Ballet Opera House from October 28-November 2, as part of the Broadway in Miami series presented by Bank of America. Finally, the group stops in West Palm Beach for performances at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts from November 11-16, as part of the Kravis on Broadway series sponsored by the Alvin and Louise Myerberg Family Foundation and Carolyn and Richard Sloane.
With its fresh new take on the beloved tale of a young woman who is transformed from a chambermaid into a princess, this hilarious and romantic Cinderella combines the story’s classic elements – glass slippers, a pumpkin and a beautiful ball – with some surprising twists. More than just a pretty face with the right shoe size, this Cinderella is a contemporary figure living in a fairytale setting. She is a spirited young woman with savvy and soul who doesn’t let her rags or her gowns trip her up in her quest for kindness, compassion and forgiveness. She not only fights for her own dreams, but forces the prince to open his eyes to the world around him and realize his dreams too.
One of Rodgers + Hammerstein’s most popular titles, Cinderella was written for television – debuting in 1957 starring Julie Andrews. In 2013, the show made its long-overdue Broadway debut. Along with Cinderella, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein’s legendary musicals include OKLAHOMA!, Carousel, The King and I, South Pacific and The Sound of Music.
Douglas Carter Beane’s book for Cinderella blends masterfully with the musical’s cherished score with songs including “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible/It’s Possible,” “Ten Minutes Ago” and “Do I Love You Because You’re Beautiful?”
Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella will play in Tampa from October 21-26, Miami from October 28-November 2, and West Palm Beach from November 11-16. Performances in Tampa are October 21 – October 23 at 7:30 p.m., October 24 at 8 p.m., October 25 at 2 and 8 p.m. and October 26 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Performances in Miami are October 28 – October 31 at 8 p.m., November 1 at 2 and 8 p.m., and November 2 at 1 and 6 p.m. Performances in West Palm Beach are November 11 – 14 at 7:30 p.m. (with an extra matinee on November 12 at 2 p.m.), November 15 at 2 and 7:30 p.m., and November 16 at 2 p.m.
