Sunday, December 14

speedo-run_copy3Only in Florida can you see Santa Claus in a Speedo and Mrs. Claus in a sports bra! The Clauses are supporting a great cause, and hopefully you will be too. The fifth annual Santa Speedo Run, benefiting the AIDS Service Association of Pinellas (ASAP) and Brighter Seasons for Children, will be held on Sunday, December 14, at Centennial Park (1800 E. 8th Ave.) in Tampa. If Santa and Mrs. Claus can take time out of their busy schedule making toys, surely you can do your part too?

speedo-run_copy2The registration cost is $35, and proceeds raised from registration costs and online donations will go to ASAP and Brighter Seasons for Children. In-person registration and check-in starts at 1 p.m., with the one-mile run starting at 2 p.m. Organizers hope to raise over $50,000 at the end of this event. Registrations and donations are accepted online before the event by going to asapservices.org.

ABOUT ASAP AND BRIGHTER SEASONS FOR CHILDREN

ASAP, the unified brand of the former organizations ACP, EMPACT and FACT, has served people affected by HIV/AIDS in Pinellas County since 1987. Since then, they have expanded their services to surrounding counties. ASAP offers services such as case management, substance abuse and mental health counseling, financial assistance, rapid HIV testing, prevention education, a special needs pantry, and more. ASAP has locations in St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and at the Flamingo Resort.

Brighter Seasons for Children is a grassroots campaign started by ASAP which specifically benefits from children affected by HIV/AIDS in Pinellas County. This program organizes a holiday party, a spring picnic, distributes Christmas gifts and meals, and puts together back-to-school essentials for kids of school age.
