Rosabel, quizás los DJ’s más populares en las discotecas gais, es una combinación de DJ Abel, de Miami y DJ Ralphi Rosario. Los dos son famosos a solos, pero juntos, son muy exitosos, parece que cada año presentan otra canción sensacional. Hablé con Ralphi Rosario mientras estaba preparando para Winter Party Festival 2015, donde Rosabel tocará en Pulse, la fiesta oficial de viernes. Como siempre, es seguro que su set va a ser uno de los más esperados de la semana.
¿Cómo se conocieron?
Tiene que haber sido más o menos alrededor de 1993- fui a Miami para el Winter Music 
Conference como solía hacer. Yo había oído hablar de este lugar llamado PARAGON ese fin de semana así que, decidí comprobarlo en la noche del sábado. Abel estaba tocando y le acerqué a presentarme. ¡No me creyó cuando le dije quién era! Me dijo que había otra persona haciéndose pasar por mí, con una tarjeta de presentación diferente. Una vez que llegamos a reír juntos esa noche, finalmente se dio cuenta que era el verdadero Ralphi Rosario.
Describe los cambios en el mundo de la música desde que empezaste tu carrera.
Definitivamente SÍ, ha cambiado. Todo el mundo piensa que la reproducción de música y DJ sean un juego de niños; que sea fácil. Esas personas están en esto por las razones equivocadas, y siento que esta sobresaturación de DJs está matando a nuestro negocio. Esto también va para las personas que se inscriban nuevos actos que no tienen poder de permanencia, y no son más que una imagen. La música de baile y la música en general no tiene la longevidad o poder de permanencia. Quiero decir, ¿estamos todavía escuchando música disco y su sonido atemporal? ¿Vamos a tocar una canción de baile de diez años y sentir el mismo poder? En realidad que no.
Cuando hacen Uds. un mix para un artista, ¿tienen la oportunidad de trabajar con el artista en persona, o es que trabajan a solos y les mandan el producto final?
Personalmente, en general, yo no encuentro con ningún artista antes de empezar a hacer una canción. Abel y yo generalmente nos gusta encerrarnos lejos de todos y trabajar furiosamente. Entonces, si el artista se acerca a nosotros durante una presentación o un concierto, le damos la bienvenida.
Recibieron una nominación para un Grammy en 2012, ¿se sienten presión de tener otro hit así?
No, en realidad, no, por lo menos para mí. No me equivoques, fue una bendición y validación para todo el trabajo que hemos hecho, pero no hay presión de hacerlo de nuevo. ¨Only Girl¨ de Rihanna (la canción nominada por el Grammy) fue una canción excelente para nosotros. Las personas y las estrellas estaban alineados… el resto, como dicen, es historia.
¿Cuáles son unos de los momentos destacados de sus carreras?
Entre 2000-2004 cuando Rosabel fuimos los reyes de los himnos de verano. ¨Don´t you want my love¨ con nuestra amiga Debbie Jacobs, en el verano de 2000, ¨That Sound¨ también en 2000, ¨Cha Cha Heels¨ en 2004- son todos momentos destacados de nuestra carrera en la producción de música. Son clásicos que nunca nos cansamos de tocar.
¿Tienen sus lugares favoritos o clubes favoritos?
Pienso que estemos de acuerdo de que The Week en Brasil es un lugar increíble para nosotros. También nos encanta tocar en Miami, la ciudad natal de Abel.
A veces trabajan también en eventos o clubes straight?
Por un periodo de siete o diez años, yo sí tocaba en eventos straight y mixtos. Pero es gracioso porque estoy seguro que lo mataríamos en un evento straight.
Van a estar otra vez en Winter Party, cuéntame porque siguen volviendo a esta fiesta.
White Party siempre va a ser un evento muy especial para nosotros. Estamos muy agradecidos por todo el amor, apoyo, y el sentido de bienvenida que recibimos allí por tanta gente. Nunca queremos decepcionar a nuestros fanáticos.
Rosabel, perhaps the most famous DJ´s at Gay Clubs, is a combination of DJ Abel, from Miami, and DJ Ralphi Rosario. The two DJ´s are both famous in their own right, but together, they are a double threat and very successful, it seems like every year they have another sensational hit. I spoke with Ralphi Rosario while they were preparing for Winter Party, where they will spin at Pulse, the official Friday night party. Like always, their set will surely be one of the most memorable and anticipated of the week.
How did you guys meet?
It must of have been roughly around 1993- I went to Miami for the Winter Music Conference as I usually did. I heard about this place called PARAGON that weekend so, I decided to check it out on Saturday night. Abel was playing; I went up to introduce myself and he didn’t believe me when I told him who I was! He said there was someone else posing as me, with a different business card. Once we got to laughing together that night, he finally realized who the REAL 
Ralphi Rosario was.
How has the music scene changed since you got your start?
It definitely HAS changed. Everyone thinks that playing music and DJing are child’s play; that it’s easy. They’re in it for the wrong reasons, and I feel that this OVER saturation of DJs is killing our business. This also goes for the people who sign new acts that have no staying power, and are total image. Dance music & music in general has NO longevity or staying power. I mean, are we’re STILL able to listen to disco its timeless sound? Will we play a dance song ten years from now and feel the same power? Not really.
When you are doing mixes of other artist songs, do you actually get a chance to work with that artist? Or do you work on it on your own and then send them the final product?
Personally, I tend to shy away from meeting any major artist. Abel and I usually like to lock ourselves away and work furiously. Then, if the artist comes forward during an appearance or concert, we welcome it.
You guys were nominated for a Grammy award in 2012; do you feel any pressure to have another hit like that?
Not really, at least for me personally. Don’t get me wrong, it was a great blessing and validation for all of our hard earned work for so many years, but there is no pressure to repeat that. ‘Only girl’ by Rihanna (which was the song for the nomination) was a great song for us to work with. The people and the stars aligned…the rest, as they say, is history.
What are some of the highlights of your career?
Between the periods of 2000 – 2004 – Rosabel ruled over having every summer anthem;
“Don’t you want my love” (With our friend Debbie Jacobs) in the summer of 2000,”That Sound” in 2000″, ¨Cha Cha Heels” in 2004.Those were some of the great highlights from our music/production career.
They are still TIMELESS classics that never get played out.
Do you have favorite places or clubs to play in?
I think we can personally agree that Brazil’s The Week is amazing for us. We both love playing in Abel’s hometown of Miami as well. Wink Wink. 🙂
Do you play straight events and clubs as well?
I used to travel to play many straight AND mixed events. I did it for a spot of like 7-10 years.
But it’s funny because I KNOW we would go over VERY well with a straight room.
You will be playing at White Party again, tell me, why do you guys keep coming back to this party? How many have you done?
White Party will always have a really special place in our hearts. We really appreciate the love, support and welcome we receive there by so many people. We never want to disappoint!
