Maroon 5 was formed back in 1994 as “Kara’s Flowers,” a band that original members Adam Levine and Jesse Carmichael started with their friends in California. After all the members took time off to attend college, they regrouped with their current name in 2001, and released their debut album, Songs About Jane, the next year. A sleeper hit, it took nearly two years to gain traction on top 40 radio. When it did, singles such as “This Love,” “She Will Be Loved,” and “Harder to Breathe” entered the top ten on the singles charts. The group won the Grammy Award for Best New Artists.

Their sophomore album It Won’t Be Soon Before Long (2007) earned them their first #1 hit, “Makes Me Wonder.” They would go on to earn two more #1 hits, “Moves Like Jagger” (2011) and “One More Night” (2012). Their most recent single, “Sugar,” from the album V, has reached the top five on the U.S. pop charts. Maroon 5’s longevity and popularity has been magnified by the exposure received on the NBC reality singing competition The Voice, where lead singer Adam Levine is a judge.
