What's Hot South Florida

On Thursday night, our publisher, Peter Clark, and a friend who will remain nameless to protect the guilty (LOL) headed over to Swinging Richards. Peter told me that the GM, Matt, was very hospitable and he got a tour of the entire property including the VIP rooms, which he said are decorated beautifully. I’m not sure if he had a good time or not, but he does have a permanent smile on his face. On Friday night I went down to Miami as Matthew Lombardo and Rick Murray presented Tony Award winner Betty Buckley live as part of the South Beach Broadway Series at the Colony Theatre. As usual Betty was amazing on stage and I had a nice chat with her afterwards. (Their third and final concert of the season features Billy Porter, so get your tickets now at ColonyTheatreMiamiBeach.com.) Afterwards I headed to the 27th anniversary of Palace and even though it was raining pretty badly, the crowds came out to support. There were some great drag performances, including Melissa Hilton, who turned the party! On Saturday morning, my friend and former editor of Hotspots (she still writes for us), Sheri Elfman, married her true love John at the beautiful new location of Grateful Palate on the water. This was a fun wedding, and Sheri looked beautiful. Congrats to Sheri and John and may they be as happy the rest of their lives as they were on their wedding day! Later on Saturday, Briza on the Bay in Miami presented a LGBT wedding show organized by Vows R Us, where lots of couples exchanged vows. On Sunday, Flip Flops Dockside Eatery presented their monthly T-Dance, which is Fort Lauderdale’s only T-Dance on the Intracoastal, featuring hostess Amanda Austin and DJ Silvio along with this month’s special guests, Willow Bierce Austin, April Channel and Joanna James. Later that night, Logo TV presented the South Florida official Season 7 premiere party for RuPaul’s Drag Race at Mansion Miami. Many of this year’s queens were there and the music was by the one and only Lady Bunny.

Stonewall Museum – Wilton Manors Gallery presents Stonewall Society VIP Exhibit Opening:  As Seen on TV: An Exploration of LGBT Characters: 1954-1979, curated by Charles L. Ross from 7–9 pm. This is a timeline focusing on how gay people were presented on American network drama and comedy programs. In the 1960s, LGBT characters were shown to have social or even mental problems; some were even murderers. Very few straight characters spoke well of homosexuals. Throughout the 1970s, the negative attitude gradually became more positive on some programs, and a few gay characters came out of the closet. Catering and refreshments by Bill’s (formerly Alibi Catering), and Ketel One. RSVP:  email David Jobin at David@Stonewall-Museum.org or 954-763-8565.

If you missed Porsche on Saturday at Georgie’s Alibi/Monkey Bar you can catch her one last time tonight live in the Manchester Room at 8, 9, and 10pm.
