 Republican National Convention coming to Tampa; GaYBOR on the front page of Tampa Tribune. It's hard to believe but true! The very conservative Tampa Tribune, the same paper who has a very hard time just saying the word “gay,” actually had the word GaYBOR District on the front page in regards to the 2012 GOP Convention in Tampa!
 What a crazy week it was at Charlie's! Birthday parties & anniversaries, Tampa Bay Business Guild Dinner, meeting of the Young Democrats and Stand Up Florida, Charlie's Angels Victory celebration, HGTV Premier of Tony & Jose's episode shot in Ybor City, concert by Monique, Miss Arica Love's White Room Party, the Judy B. Goode Show with Paul Thomas with un expected cast of Mary Poppin's! What will this week bring? We can only imagine!
In light of the most recent Rentboy scam with anti-gay psychologist George Rekers, we find that Florida's Attorney General Bill McCollum personally requested that the state's Department of Children & Families hire Rekers for his expert testimony regarding Florida's ban on gay adoption, even though his credentials were more than discredited. Rekers seems to have double billed the state for over $120,700 for his made-up unscientific testimony during the gay adoption case court hearing. Florida AG McCollum (now running for the Republican Florida Governor spot) was said to have “ok'd” the unscrupulous payout. Reker resigned his membership from the far right wing conservative group the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuals (NARTH). Arkansas officials rejected Rekers in testimony in 2004 because it was of his own personal beliefs not scientific fact. Florida is still the only state to ban adoption by gays and lesbians.
Ybor City has been abuzz for months ever since HGTV “Battle on the Block” announced they were filming the new TV show here. 3 couples were each given $5,000 and the challenge to re- decorate their master bedrooms. The winner would receive a cash prize of $10,000! The couples were: Steve & Laren Erickson; Tony and Jose; Jenna and Ryan. On the night of the premier everybody packed Streetcar Charlie's event room to watch together. You can just imagine our surprise when an opening scene was filmed inside MC Film! The winner was……… The real big winners were the Ybor City residents.
Every Saturday Night the Ybor Social is going country with DJ Aleta keeping the dance floor full. Downstairs the Ybor Eagle is just plain HOT! Country Western & Leather - what a natural combination!
