Premios Azucar

Azucar has always delivered a high level of professionalism and elegance, so no one was surprised at how lavish everything was for the 3rd Annual Premios Azucar the evening of the 19th. The red carpet, media coverage and larger than life vases, filled with blue water, pieces of bamboo and an arrangement of orchids transformed the popular nightclub into a posh, upscale lounge. The complimentary bar and appetizer stations and swag bags filled with CD's, magazines and other trinkets made Premios Azucar one of the most prominent events of the year in the region.

Now in its third year of honoring female impersonators and outstanding members of the community, Los Premios is an award that everyone and anyone would be proud and honored to receive. Between being warmly received at the door by Miss Azucar 2008 Amanda West and Miss Divine 2008 Gia Nicole West, entertained by such favorites as Teresita La Caliente, Sophia Divine, Victoria Grantty, Maite West and Vegas Dion, to name a few, you were always reminded that a great portion of the evening was about the female impersonators who have made a difference in the local entertainment industry.

The focus on the community doesn't mean there wasn't pomp and pageantry, in proper Miami fashion. Some of Miami's well to do, including former Miami Beach Commissioner Michael Gongora, former Latino Boys Magazine Cover Models Carlos Lopez and Jose Vega and sassy female impersonators Paloma and Miss Judy Too Much lent a hand in adding to the glitz and glamour of the evening. Everyone was fierce, fabulous, and having a great time socializing and networking amidst the backdrop of the evening's festivities.

For the first time in three years Premios Azucar honored Excellence in the Gay Media, including Hotspots Magazine and Latino Boys Magazine together in the evening's spotlight. Coincidentally, the evening was the first public appearance of  the two publications together as they forge an innovative and unique partnership.

Overall the event was a resounding success. On behalf of all of us at Hotspots Magazine, we'd like to express our gratitude to Anthony Rodriguez and the management and staff at Club Azucar for presenting the evening and being such a driving force in the community.
