To community legends Joe Van Eron and Jack Zimmerman, who are celebrating ten years at Liberty Suites Guest House in Dania and who have won numerous awards and honors for their many accomplishments, including the “Award for Excellence” three times and the “2007 Pink Choice Award” for being among the best gay & lesbian accommodations in Greater Fort Lauderdale! I know both Joe and Jack personally and they are true sweethearts, for whom I wish only the best in health and happiness!

Sidelines Sports Bar will host the Paladin Athletic Organization’s first dart tournament & fundraiser this Saturday, July 12 from 1 to 4 pm. It is open to all and registration begins at 12:30 pm. The Paladins were formed in 2003 by a small group of men and women who enjoy playing co-ed softball. Today it is a successful non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and nurturing of amateur athletics for all persons, with special emphasis on the participation of members of the GLBT community. They currently have five teams playing amateur softball in the city’s various gay leagues. One such team, the Paladin Knights, recently won a berth in the upcoming North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance’s (NAGAAA) Gay Softball World Series to be held August 22 – 30 in Seattle, Washington. Proceeds from the dart tournament will aid in getting the Knights to Seattle.
Every Wednesday at 10 pm Bill’s presents “Cashetta’s Star Search.” You may see a drag queen playing the flute or a male vocalist wearing a swimsuit just to get audience applause and win $100 in cash and a chance to return the following week as defending champion. Hosted by Cashetta with DJ Scott Mann spinning retro 70’s, 80’s and 90’s from 9 pm until show time. If you want to show off your talent, be at Bill’s by 9:30 pm to sign up.
My Yellow Lab, Missy, recently attended her family reunion at Grandma Chip Simpson’s home, so I thought I’d share a picture of her (she’s the only yellow one!) with her mom, sisters and brother and their daddies. Grandma Chip is standing in for me behind Missy, as I was taking the pic!
