Food Feature - La Cantina

NEW!
07/10/08
La Cantina Mexican-American Café has been offering South Florida authentic Mexican food for over 20 years. What is the secret to their longevity in an industry subject to the whims of changing tastes, fast foods and fads? Consistency. In addition to remaining in the same location, La Cantina has been under the same ownership with the same kitchen staff the entire time.

The cooks are truly dedicated to their craft. Each meal is prepared to order and they are very particular about the traditional recipes offered to their patrons, much like they were preparing the meals for their own families. Whether it's the chips and salsa, the chicken or beef prepared for the burritos, chimichangas, enchiladas and tacos or the refried beans and Mexican rice, the taste will tell you that you are enjoying food that was prepared in their kitchen from start to finish.

If you are worried that Mexican food may be too spicy, don't be. Many Americans have come to think of Mexican food as synonymous with Tex-Mex, but they are vastly different. Tex-Mex food is often highly seasoned, allowing the spices to overpower the dish. You will find that the traditional Mexican dishes offered at La Cantina are mildly seasoned to compliment the flavors of the other ingredients. They also offer a selection of traditional American fare and a few delightful variations with a Mexican kick, such as Mexi-burgers and fries, streak and Mexican ribs. Mexican food includes seafood, too!

The selection of house specialties and traditional meals may make it hard to choose. La Cantina offers some of their menu items a la carte, as well as combination platters like the El Rey, which includes a taco, burrito and chili relleno. If you still have room for dessert try the irresistible deep-fried ice cream.

La Cantina offers a casual, festive atmosphere that invites you stick around. Come in, have a margarita (you choose the flavor and the size, up to 46 ounces!) and top it off with a meal that will surely satisfy you and make you feel like a siesta.

La Cantina Mexican-American Café is located in Fort Lauderdale at 2870 East Sunrise Boulevard, just a few short blocks from A1A and the beach. They're open daily at 4 p.m., with happy hour until 7:00 p.m. For more information call 954-565-3839.
