St Pete Pride 2012

St Pete Pride commemorates the bravery of the Stonewall rioters with a parade on the last Saturday of June. The tradition of commemorating Stonewall started in a couple large cities – New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago – in 1970 and has since become a focal point for the solidarity of our community across the nation. The City of St. Petersburg has been celebrating its LGBT community with a Pride Parade since 1993; this being the10th. Within this relatively short amount of time, St. Pete Pride has grown into one of the largest Pride events in the southeast and is the largest Pride event in the state of Florida.

What started as a few thousand native Floridians and a couple city blocks on beautiful Central Avenue has become an international attraction, spanning seven blocks and attracting tens of thousands of people. In 2011, attendance broke all records with an estimated 85,000-90,000 people. In 2012, St. Pete Pride will celebrate its 10th Anniversary with "Carnivale - 10 Years of Pride in Paradise." Celebrate Central Florida's LGBT community and the history of the LGBT movement. St. Petersburg has much to be proud of and this is their time to celebrate their diversity, come together as one and look to the future!

This year St Pete Pride returns to its popular 2 stage format as it presents local and national entertainment throughout the day. There will be lots of entertainment all day long on the Jagermeister Main Stage at Central Avenue and 21st Street. The schedule at press time is:

12:15pm – Karmic Tattoo perform

12:45pm – Miss USofA at Large Desiree Demornay and Miss ASAP Aspen Love

1pm – National Recording Artist DEBRA COX performs

1:30pm – Alisa Summers and Alexis Mateo of RuPauls Drag race

2pm – Halcyon performs

2:30pm – Iman Travieso, empress of the Flamingo Resort

Lay on your back with your heels in the middle of the exercise ball. Put your arms out to your sides to help you balance. Next, raise your butt up off the ground and tighten your core. Once in place, curl your legs in as much as you can by bringing your heels to your butt. Try to hyperextend your hips out as much as you can while contracting your glutes and hamstrings at the end of the motion. Once you curl your legs in as far as you can, slowly return to the starting position and repeat.
