GaYBOR & Tampa Bay Gossip & News

Square One Breaks though Round Holes
La Di Da was the artful theme for a recent Square One Productions program at the Ritz Ybor in Historic Ybor City. Over the guestimated amount of 4500+ people showed up to experience a new generation of imaginative art, trendy fashions and festivities in GaYborhood settings. Okesene Tilo, executive director of Square One, was adorned with praise by newcomers to Ybor City and ventured to the new generation of nightlife in Historic Ybor City. Former Ritz promoter and Square One founder-photographer-fashion designer Gary Randall came and visited from his new digs in New York City. Drum Beaters welcomed everyone in the outside theatre’s entry. A most unique “homemade candy” bar was set up for settling that sweet tooth amongst the libations! 75 local artists showed their creativeness, dozens of psychics told your secret futures and a troupe of many modern dance groups performed led, by artistic modern dance creator Maria Pardo. The fashions and designs by the new designer’s coming out party drew rave reviews by the audience. Jose Renteria and Michelle Barcia did all the make-up for the fashion show and dance recitals. Characters of circus and fairy tales walked around the event and amused the attendees. Light shows, an entourage of bands, creative designer fashions, modern dance, artists and artsy foods provided a great way to introduce an elder historic community to new likes! Their next fantastic event is this fall. Visit SquareOneFlorida.com for more information.

Pride & Passion … After Party
An after party for the Pride & Passion benefit fundraiser for Tampa Museum of Art was held at the Imperial Theatre at Czar’s. The Pride & Passion Part, themed “Bit Byte.Spot” had over 450+ attend the artsy affair in the Sykes Building (aka Tampa’s Beer Can Tower) in downtown Tampa. MC of the night was always dressed-to-the-t Scott, co-owner Urban Body in Hyde Park and DJ-CK spun the discs for everyone’s music enjoyment. The event was a record fundraiser for the museum and the largest GLBT party for the museum of its sort. Meanwhile, back at Czar’s late night with the host SUPERTEST and special guest illusionists singer Kalup Linzy (a USF fellow grad) and Patty E. Patetik 2.0 with a very outlandish and low browed take your breath away performance that was applauded for creativity, uniqueness and artsy fresh with no boundary setting. Great back-up graphics and visuals let the audience transcend into the themed “SweetBerry Sampled” party. Creative Loafing was the main sponsor for the gala. Other events and projects are coming forth from SuperTestProjects.org.

People are Talking
2009 never ceases to amaze me. The rumor mill line-up of Tampa Mayor wannabes is growing. Word is that an old name is looking at running again. Well, I guess maybe a couple of old names! The ambitious Bob Buckhorn wants to return to the podium as, well, as ….YOU GUESSED IT, former Tampa Mayor 2x past… Dick Greco. Others sitting on the fence are Hillsborough County Commissioner Rose Ferlita and Tampa City Councilman Tom Scott. We know Joe Redner’s name will be tossed around for a new mayoral post try also. Did we see Judge Carolyn Tesche Saturday at the Ritz?
