Church of the Holy Spirit Song

Church of the Holy SpiritSong (COHSS) was created 10 years ago by Pastor Deeana Jaworski, who left the ministry to move to New Jersey in May 2007 to take time to be with her family and seek God’s guidance. She has subsequently begun a new COHSS, New Jersey, to be officially launched this fall. The senior pastor at the “Mother Church” is Rev. Tom Millner; associate pastors are Rev.’s Leslie Tipton and Suzanne Taczak. Before joining the church Millner had his own consulting business in organizational development for 2 years and prior to that worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 32 years. The church is made up of predominantly gay worshippers, but anyone is welcome. COHSS started in West Palm Beach and progressively made its way south. The last few years they conducted services at the GLCC (old building) until leasing their own space in the new GLCC campus, which for those of you who haven’t been is quite lovely. They have seating for 175 people and have 2 services a week, Sundays at 10 am and Wednesdays at 8 pm.

In addition to services they have many different events happening at the Church. On Sundays they have women’s Bible study at 8:30 am and men’s Bible study at 6 pm. Mondays feature different classes, Wednesdays feature Celebrate Recovery at 6 pm and Bible study at 7 pm. Thursday evening is when the choir has their rehearsal, followed by American Sign Language worship team. On Fridays they either feature a movie or a workshop. As you can see the church offers a full list of activities all week long. In addition they have an active children’s ministry with on average 15 children every Sunday. According to Millner, “They are trying to create a space where something is going on every day of the week.” COHSS is doing so well here in South Florida and in the newer church in New Jersey that they are planning another church to open in P-Town in the near future.

On Saturday, July 18th at 5:30 pm the Church of the Holy SpiritSong presents an open house and would like to invite the entire community to check out their newly remodeled worship center located at 2040B North Dixie Highway, Suite 3 in the heart of Wilton Manors. The open house will start with an hors d’oeuvres reception along with some great fellowship. At 7 pm Shawn Thomas will perform.

Shawn Thomas is an out contemporary Christian performer and recording artist who grew up as a son of a preacher in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). After a decade of pursuing his talents in many directions, including songwriting, producing, musical theater, dance and choreography, choral direction and voice instruction, Shawn followed the encouragement of others and incorporated his faith into his music. In 2003 Shawn released his first spiritual project, “Everything I Am,” which received a “Pride in the Arts Award” from the Stonewall Society and spun 2 number one singles on the Pride Christian Music charts. He has since released five additional CD/albums and the most recent “Worship & Desperation,” received the 2008 Editors Choice Award from QNation.fm. Shawn visits churches, groups and events sharing the grace message of God’s love through concerts, workshops and spoken language. Shawn’s music and videos are available at YouTube and iTunes, as well as on his website ShawnThomasOnline.com.
