A week ago Monday was the finals for Drag Icon at Johnny’s. The contest featured 7 qualified contestants all vying for over $1500 in cash and prizes as well as a beautiful crown. A special shout out goes out to Alandra Matt who’s talent was off the chain. Congrats to Sean, AJ, TP, Doug and the winner, Tiona Devine. This past weekend the porn community held their annual Internext-Expo 2009 in South Florida. While there were no gay parties Thursday night, FabScout Entertainment, along with CyberSocket, hosted a VIP party at Boardwalk Bar in Fort Lauderdale on Friday that had a total of 130 attendees, including some of the biggest executives and websites in the gay porn industry. Partial sponsorship was also provided by Swiss Navy Lube, Fleshjack.com, Badpuppy.com and Rentboy.com. Saturday afternoon was the 19th annual Poverello bowl-a-thon at Manor Lanes. Once again the community rallied together to raise close to $50,000 for this great charity that helps the needy! Following the bowl-a-thon Sidelines featured the after party, where everyone went to relax, kick back, rehash all the fun moments of the day and have a few cocktails. Thanks to Laurie, Marty and Jennifer for providing free Humpy’s Pizza and for hosting this party!

Chic Optique presents a raffle to benefit the Smart Ride with lots of great prizes from 6 to 9pm. Admission is $5 and includes one raffle ticket, food and wine. They invite the entire community to be a part of the effort in making Smart Ride a success and to support team Chic Optique.

Azucar presents a Beach Party with a special show and super hot dancers. If you come dressed in beach wear you get in free.
Voodoo Saturdays presents Beachfest 2009, a summer theme party where they invite you to wear your trunks. In addition Capital Records presents Katy Perry’s “Out Of The Boys” CD release party starring Erika Norell as Katy Perry and hosted by Kitty Meow and Alyssa Kartiar. The night also features DJ Michael Tank in the main room, DJ Nena in the Latin Lounge and DJ Miik on the open format and Hip-Hop patio.

On August 15 – 18, 1969, The Woodstock Music Festival changed the world. The three days of peace, love and rock ‘n’ roll in upstate New York had much more meaning than hippies gathering around to party. It was a cultural experience. It was the grooviest event in music history. People came from all over to watch musicians like Santana, The Who, Jimi Hendrix,
Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Creedance Clearwater Revival, Jefferson Airplane, Blood Sweat & Tears, Joan Baez, Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. Vendors sold crafts and Vietnam War protesters spoke about the war. It was a cultural experience of the troubled decade. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, The Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival invites you to have a similar experience at Cinema Paradiso. The day will feature concert films featuring many of the same bands, plus a local artists’ gallery, organic food and an acoustic jam and drum circle – so bring your guitar, banjo, mandolin, bongos or other instrument and join in. Free movie passes and other items from the new film, Taking Woodstock, will be awarded throughout the event. Directed by Ang Lee, Taking Woodstock will be theatrically released on August 28th. AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) has opened a Men’s Wellness Center at its Northpoint Healthcare Center to provide free, confidential and comprehensive sexual health services—including HIV and STD (sexually-transmitted disease) testing and treatment—in one convenient location. This walk-in clinic is based on a successful model of service pioneered by AHF at its West Hollywood Healthcare Center in Los Angeles. The Men’s Wellness Center Northpoint, located at 6405 N. Federal Hwy., Suite 205 in the Imperial Point Hospital Medical Office Building, will offer HIV and STD screenings and treatment, as well as treatment for syphilis, gonorrhea and Chlamydia. Hours of service are Monday and Thursday, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. No appointment is necessary.
