It was an evening of glitz and glamour at L’ Olivier’s in Ybor as the Mr. & Mrs. Tampa Newcomer Contest started. Over the course of the evening 15 local divas wowed the packed audience. Hosted by Miss Joey Brooks and Miss Esme Russell, this was a benefit for Miss Jocelyn Summers. Congratulations to the New Miss Tampa Newcomer, Miss Nikki Summers, and to the first runner up, Miss Vanessa Del Ray. Congratulations to the New Mr. Tampa, JD Bear! Following the contest there was an after party at G.Bar.

Things are really heating up at Chelsea Night Club. New owners Nikki and Bruno are packing the nights with fun and excitement! Coming this Halloween there will be a chance to win a bottle of Crystal Head Vodka! On our visit Nikki showed us the actual crystal head!

This past week (quite by accident) we had the privilege of seeing Miss Joey Brooks perform four times! OK, now I do feel like a stalker! Known as “The First Lady of Ybor City,” Joey also holds 27 other titles, including Miss FL and Miss FL at Large, but in 1993 she received the title of Miss MC FilmFest! Joey got her start in the 1970’s as the light person at the original EL Goya in Ybor City. She has since performed around the world and was a permanent cast member at “La Cage” in Las Vegas. To say she has paid her dues is an understatement. We are looking forward to many more years of performances by the fabulous Miss Joey Brooks!

During a recent filming of a new Hamburger Mary’s commercial in Ybor, guess who was spotted wearing blue eye shadow? Miss Esme Russell! Hamburger Mary’s and Tribeca Salon, located in Centro Ybor, are both ahead of schedule – look for their opening soon! In a sad moment for Tampa Bay, The Waterside Landing in New Port Richey served their last drink and closed. So many guys raved about the Leather T-Dance at the Ybor Eagle/Social that there is talk of doing another one very soon! There are big changes coming to Guavaween this year. There won’t be a motorized parade, instead there will be a walking costume parade.
