Cinco de Mayo is not “an obligatory federal holiday” in Mexico, but rather a holiday that can be observed voluntarily. While Cinco de Mayo has limited significance nationwide in Mexico, the date is observed in the United States (also voluntarily) and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day, which actually is September 16, the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico.
Cinco De Mayo Celebrations Thoughout Florida
Noche Latina Saturdays in the Ivy Lounge and Patio at the Manor will celebrate Mexico on Saturday, May 1st with DJ Larry Larr and shows by Erika Norell and guests.
Maracas will be celebrating all week long and has 2 special parties. The first is on Monday (Boys Night), May 3 and features a special appearance by the good luck Herradura Tequila Boys. On Wednesday, May 5th they will feature DJ Johnny Quest and a live Mariachi band. In addition they will have a Cinco de Mayo fiesta menu served from noon to midnight. Both days they will be giving away t-shirts, hats and other prize giveaways.
G-Bar in GaYbor celebrates all things Mexican on Tuesday, May 4th with an amateur strip contest hosted by Amy Demilo.
Planeta Macho at Score celebrates its Cinco de Mayo party on Tuesday, May 4th with a live mariachi band at midnight. They night will also star resident DJ George Ferrero and Ricardito and his dancers on the second level.
