dishing1Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio has only 8 months left in office but there isn’t any moss growing under her toes: the new downtown Curtis Hixon Park with 2 new city museums, mapping out a new light rail system for the city, hi speed rail to Orlando (which has been funded by the federal government), the new City Riverwalk along Hillsborough River (which is progressing with private funding) and crime throughout all of Tampa being down 26% are just some of her accomplishments. She appointed the new Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor, who is a lesbian, this past fall. Those are major accomplishment! The 2012 National Republican Convention has been landed in Tampa, we are re-bidding for the 2014 Super Bowl and we are on the board for possible International Soccer Championship Games. And then there are all those gays! Tampa Bay is #7 in the U.S. for The Gays love Mayor Pam. The Tampa Community loves Mayor Pam. But where will she move on to? “I have so much to do I don’t even think about it. But if I did I would tell you!” she remarked at the luncheon held at Streetcar Charlie’s in her honor. The amazing UV Rays, part of Una – Voce, Florida Men’s Chorale (Una-Voce.org) sang to the mayor with conviction and humor. It was a great luncheon. What the gay community gave to the affirmative mayor was a memorable, beautifully etched crystal plaque thanking her for her 25 years of GLBT support and her public service. Awards were given to the GaYBOR Board by Hotspots Magazine Central Florida Manager Scott Spar. The Community Achievement and Thank You plaques were presented to Carrie West – GaYBOR (President), D. Stephen Moss (Vice President), Mark Bias (co-Secretary), Rich Kerin (co-Secretary) and John Gorman (Treasurer). The officers have been in office since GaYBOR’s inception in 2007. Again, thank you for your vision and friendship, Mayor Pam!
