Friday
The day started off with a 15th Street FREE Community Health Fair. The 5 hour event was co sponsored by GaYBOR, Suntrust Bank, Florida Entertainment Group, The Ybor Social, MC FILM and Streetcar Charlie’s. GaYBOR Movie Night at Muvico in Centro Ybor, sponsored by Centro 20 Muvico and the Guzzo Brothers, Pete and Paul, featured “The Ghost of Ybor: Charlie Wall,” a film about Ybor City’s most famous gangster, Charlie Wall aka “The White Shadow.” Next stop: Hamburger Mary’s for the drag show, where we caught up with the First Lady of Ybor City, Miss Joey Brooks, with a hot date at her side. After the show it was on to Steam Friday’s at The Honey Pot for the Official GaYBOR Days party Enter the Ice Age!, an event so huge it could only be held at Steam Fridays. There were huge chunks of ice dangling everywhere, an ice cave on the stage and a 24-foot dinosaur skeleton walking across the back bar! International super star DJ DAVID KNAPP had the club moving in a big way!
Saturday
The afternoon started off with an all star cast of groups performing at PLAY YBOR. The famous bar crawl started from The Reservoir Bar with Mamma! Lead by Toby & Alica Summers with help from Rose Marie, Mark, Carrie, Mathieu, Arthur and porn star Matt Rush, the group of over 300 made their way through GaYBOR with stops at Centro Cantina, Hamburger Mary’s, Centro Muvico 20, The Crowbar, PLAY, Green Iguana, Good Luck Cafe, Gaspar’s Grotto, JJ’s Cafe, New York New York Pizza and G.BAR. Later we attended a concert with Lori Michael at The Honey Pot, then on to see Derrick Barry as Lady GAGA at G.BAR. The Ybor Eagle & Ybor Social was packed for Leather Night with porn star Matthew Rush!
Sunday
The doors opened at the Green Iguana Hawaiian Village/Days Inn with DjCK & DJ Jeffery in position. Shortly after 6 pm the drag show started with Daphne Ferraro & Amy Demillo, then, just as they were ready to announce Esme Russell & Cameron Wells, the sky opened up with a down pour. Jorge A’s fashion models were all in swimwear and underwear and decided to do a photo shoot in the pool and stone waterfall, much to the delight of the guests, volunteers and staff! One of the largest crowds we have ever have seen was at Hamburger Mary’s for Pandora Box from “RuPaul’s Drag Race” performing 2 sold out shows! The Ybor Eagle and Ybor Social was jumping to the DJ upstairs and to more porn stars in the Eagle, including SAMUEL COLT. Performing at The Honey Pot was lead singer Andy Bell of the famed musical group ERASURE, who gave a kick-ass performance to the delight of the packed house.
The exhausted GaYBOR volunteers have started to plan next year’s event already!
