Forget Sundance, we have our own film festival right here in Fort Lauderdale. The second annual Fort Lauderdale Gay and Lesbian Film Festival will take place October 7th through 10th. In addition to some cutting-edge films, there are also hot parties to attend.
Forget Sundance, we have our own film festival right here in Fort Lauderdale. The second annual Fort Lauderdale Gay and Lesbian Film Festival will take place October 7th through 10th. In addition to some cutting-edge films, there are also hot parties to attend.
On Thursday, October 7th the event will begin with an opening party at The Manor, which is also the box office for the festival, featuring a live performance by Karina Iglesias and band. The film festival will wrap up with a closing party at The Manor on Sunday, October 10th, featuring a special performance by the Leesa Richards Band.

Stonewall Uprising
Friday, October 8th at 5:30 pm
An important film, “Stonewall Uprising” focuses on the famous Stonewall Riots that took place back in 1969. Filmmakers Kate Davis and David Heilbroner made this film on the occurrences at Stonewall, which features an impressive collection of archival footage and first-hand accounts of what occurred on that day. Interviews with the police officers involved in the event are also featured in the film.
Is It Just Me?
Friday, October 8th at 6 pm
Directed by South Florida native J.C. Calciano, “Is It Just Me” is a fun and cute date movie. The film follows roommates Blaine, who is your average nice guy, and Cameron, a beefy muscle god. Hijinks ensue when Blaine sends a guy he met online photos of Cameron by mistake.
The People I´ve Slept With
Friday, October 8th at 8 pm
This romantic comedy features Angela, a woman who has sex like a stereotypical man. She is the queen of no-strings romance. Things are going well for her until she finds herself pregnant. Her gay BFF, played by Wilson Cruz, helps Angela solve the mystery of who the father of her baby is.
8: The Mormon Proposition
Saturday, October 9th at 2 pm
Reed Cowan´s documentary, “8: The Mormon Proposition,” focuses on the efforts of the Church of Latter Day Saints, who used the resources of their congregation and the manpower of their missionaries to influence the outcome of the Golden State´s ballot measure. Cowan himself is a Utah native raised in the Mormon faith. Locals will recognize him as an anchorman for Channel 7. The making of this film has lead to death threats and an estranged relationship with his family.
Making the Boys
Sunday, October 10th at 2:30 pm
“The Boys in the Band” was a hilarious film (originally an off Broadway play) about a group of gay men in the late 1960s living in New York City and was one of the first major movies to focus on gay characters. Crayton Robeys created the documentary “Making the Boys” to let us in on the making of the film and its role in LGBT culture.
Violet Tendencies
Sunday, October 10th at 5 pm
Violet (who is played by Mindy Cohn – Natalie from “Facts of Life”) is a thirty-something fruit fly looking for a man to call her own. She has a tight-knit group of gay men to keep her company, but she is looking for romance. Her friend, Salome, urges her to get herself a guy, but Violet has trouble juggling her search and being there for her friends who are having issues of their own. The comedy also stars Marcus Patrick of “Days of Our Lives” and actor/writer Jesse Archer.
