Tuesday was what we call in the event going business a trifecta. It was a pleasure to be invited to the swearing in ceremony of Wilton Manors Mayor Gary Resnick and all the commissioners. The event was held inside the main hall at Hagen Park and was catered by Alibi Catering. Congratulations to Mayor Resnick, Scott Newton and all the other commissioners. Afterwards I headed over to McSorley’s on the beach for the monthly Fort Lauderdale Mack Mixer, which once again was packed. From there I was off to The Manor for the 1st annual employee Turn-A-Bout night which was a benefit for AIDS Healthcare Foundation. Much needed money was raised for AHF and one lucky employee, Monica Inferno (Harry), won the $100 prize for best performance in drag. To launch the new AlandChuck.travel, Legendary Journeys invited all gay media in Florida on a 3 day complimentary cruise aboard the MSC Poesia. While enjoying all the amenities the boat had to offer it was so much fun getting to know the other gay media in Florida and the staff of Legendary Journeys, who by the way were very attentive to all our needs. gay-events-south-florida-4Sunday night was the annual Equality Florida Broward gala, which for the 3rd year in a row was held at the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale. Once again the gala was packed with over 300 community members that wanted to honor and support the important work that Equality Florida does locally and across the state. Congratulations to Martin Gill who was the 2010 Voice for Equality Award winner. His speech, which told the struggle of adopting his 2 boys and getting the ban against gay adoption lifted in the state of Florida, brought tears to my eyes. This was a wonderful event!

gay-events-south-florida-10I have seen some clips of scenes, received many pics and have listened to the album and I can almost guarantee you that “Burlesque” is going to be the HUGE blockbuster of the holiday season. If the premise of the movie wasn’t fabulous enough, it stars 2 performers that the gay community loves, Christina Aguilera and Cher. Ali (Christina Aguilera) is a small-town girl with a big voice who escapes hardship and an uncertain future to follow her dreams to LA. After stumbling upon The Burlesque Lounge, a majestic but ailing theater that is home to an inspired musical revue, Ali lands a job as a cocktail waitress from Tess (Cher), the club’s proprietor and headliner. Burlesque’s outrageous costumes and bold choreography enrapture the young ingénue, who vows to perform there one day. Soon enough, Ali builds a friendship with a featured dancer (Julianne Hough), finds an enemy in a troubled, jealous performer (Kristen Bell), and garners the affection of Jack (Cam Gigandet), a bartender and fellow musician.

gay-events-south-florida-11With the help of a sharp-witted stage manager (Stanley Tucci) and gender-bending host (Alan Cumming), Ali makes her way from the bar to the stage. Her spectacular voice restores The Burlesque Lounge to its former glory, though not before a charismatic entrepreneur (Eric Dane) arrives with an enticing proposal. Christina Aguilera makes her theatrical film and musical debut as the lead character in “Burlesque” where she co-stars along with the legendary Cher in her first major film role since 1999.  “Burlesque,” which will be released by Screen Gems / Sony Pictures nationwide on on Wednesday, November 24th, is written and directed by Steven Antin and produced by Donald De Line. Just 2 days prior to that RCA Records will be releasing “Burlesque,” the soundtrack to the Sony Pictures film. The highly anticipated soundtrack features new recordings performed and co-written by five time Grammy winner Christina Aguilera, with production by Tricky Stewart, Linda Perry and Ron Fair and songwriting by Claude Kelly, Tricky Stewart and Sia. The soundtrack also features two brand new tracks performed by the legendary Cher, including “You Haven’t Seen The Last Of Me,” a powerful Diane Warren penned ballad which was produced by Matt Serletic. This marks Cher’s first new original song in seven years as well as her first movie musical. The soundtrack also includes remakes / covers of classic songs such as Etta James’ “Something’s Got A Hold On Me” and “Tough Lover” and Mae West’s “A Guy What Takes His Time” all performed by Christina Aguilera.
