After a year of working on negotiating for the old Badcock Furniture store on 7th Ave, a new sparkling gem has now appeared. The New Metro Wellness and Community Centers cut a huge Good Luck Ribbon on its opening ceremony with outgoing Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio. The old Historic San Souci Building is now known as the areas new GLBT Center for Tampa. The restored two-story white brick building has a variety of community services for HIV testing/treatment, mental health, substance abuse, minority counseling and many new forthcoming programs. Already on the first floor is Bio Script Pharmacy and coming soon a new USF medical clinic.

Get your minds out of the gutter…. her show is from 6 to 9! Immediately following Judy’s is the Mary’s Talent Contest. All talent is welcome. From singing, dancing, to stand up comedians and drag — you just never know what or who will show up. New on Thursday starting at 11:30 p.m. is Bradley’s on 7th Amateur strip contest. What a huge hit! Seven of the hottest guys in GaYBOR all competed. The MC was Miss Joey Brooks and special guest was Ms. Alexis Mateo. Congratulations to this week’s winner Douglas!
Congratulations to Dr. Dan who just accepted an honored Fellow position at Yale University! He will be teaching at the Yale University Medical School. What a high honor for a great community friend. . .The GaYBOR District Coalition is busy getting ready for their 1st Spring Easter Bonnet Bar Crawl on Sunday, April 17. We’ll be stopping at 12 locations throughout GaYBOR and there will be a prize for the Best Bonnet. Tickets are on sale now at MC Film. . .Speaking of MC FILM we had the honor this week of former Tampa Mayor Dick Greco coming in and reminiscing about Tampa’s crazy out-there past. He has a lot of great personal stories to tell. One of course is how he shot a hole in the ceiling in our store (the old King Greco Hardware Store). He said “it wasn’t hard.” The Greco book is coming out soon!. . .A new gay bar is in sights in GaYBOR! Liquid on 15th, which is opening on April 15th on 15th Street. . .There’s a new makeover at the Flamingo Resort Restaurant which has acquired sitting booths from the old Dan Marino Steakhouse. . .Sawmill Campground is changing ownership from private to a co-op? Look out Orlando, a new bar crawl in April is coming your way!
