The world was introduced to SuperChumbo with “The Revolution” when it burst through the club speakers in 2001. Tom’s DJing and remixing brought to the world a sexy new sound that encompassed percussive wallops, globular synths, a respect for house traditions and a dark sensibility that bordered on industrial- the dance world had a hit, a new “it” producer.
Tom has continually evolved since “The Revolution” seeking out new sounds, remixing superstars and playing around the globe, all while building on the foundation he first laid down as a punter in the afterhours clubs of New York City: Groove, sex, and always more than a bit of darkness.
He is now an in demand DJ that has produced many CDs and even has his own label, ChumboMundo. Tom travels the world and is a regular at venues like Ministry of Sound in London, Pacha in NYC, Amnesia in Ibiza and ageHa in Tokyo.
Celebrity DJ Tracy Young takes over the turntables on Saturday, November 26 for a night that is sure to be talked about for some time to come. Tracy has produced tracks for such heavyweights as Madonna, Stevie Nicks, Pet Shop Boys, Cyndi Lauper, Christina Aguilera, Gloria Estefan, Pink, and Shakira. She has also played private events for the likes of Madonna, Diddy, Lenny Kravitz, Ricky Martin, and Cher. Even Paris Hilton has been photographed shaking her moneymaker to Tracy’s rhythms.
Teddy Bear with DJ Marc Scott
Starting Sunday, November 27th The Manor in conjunction with DJ Marc Scott will be presenting a monthly party entitled “Teddy bear.” It is going to be a fresh, fun and furry dance party. Marc has been Deejaying in South Florida for over 27 year and is most well known recently for his 9 year run at the helm of Jackhammer T Dance. As this new party is about to start we decided to sit down with Marc for an interview.
How did you get started in the club world?
I had always loved music. I played records since I was a young child. When I grew up and started to go dancing at clubs, my friends noticed that I had a knack for hearing the song that the DJ was mixing into long before anyone else. I expressed my interest in becoming a DJing to a friend who was a club manager at Shangri La in Plantation, FL. Soon after that, I was hired to cue up songs for the drag shows, run the lights on the dancefloor and DJ occasionally as well. DJing came very naturally to me–and I sought to do it more and more!
What was your first residency?
Being a lightman at Backstreet and DJing for Tea Dance at Tacky’s–both in Fort Lauderdale in the early to mid 80’s.
What has been your favorite gig?
That’s tough because I truly loved them all. Allow me to mention a few: The Original Eagle in Fort Lauderdale from 1991 to 1996, the Ramrod in 1996 and The Royal Tea Dance at Club Atlantis on Ft. Lauderdale Beach in 2002. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention my 9 year run at Jackhammer Tea Dance in Fort Lauderdale for which I’m probably known best. The closing party at Jackhammer’s original location is easily one of my best DJ experiences ever.
What separates you from other DJs?
I am fortunate to know many talented DJs. This has enabled me to cultivate some wonderful, mutually respectful relationships in the DJ community. Perhaps what sets me apart are my sensitivity and empathy. I believe those qualities enable me to read my crowd and play from my heart.
Other then DJing, what do you like to do for fun?
My favorite thing to do is to spend time with my wonderful circle of friends whom I cherish. It really doesn’t matter what we do as long as I am with them.
What does the future hold for Marc Scott?
Exposing my DJing to more new audiences–including travel–and also moving into the realm of the digital DJ. Maybe a husband and a dog, too.
