On February 29 through March 5, the event you gave up carbs for – Winter Party Festival (WPF) 2012 – will take place. One of the biggest parties for the GLBT community, Winter Party attracts over 10,000 guests from all around the world.

During these six crazy days there will be parties at some of the best venues Miami has to offer and also a huge roster of popular deejays, which include Alain Jackinsky (Montreal, Canada), Alyson Calagna (Denver, CO), Billy Lace (New York, NY), Brett Henrichsen (New York, NY), Danny Verde (Italy), GiGi (Washington, DC and Miami, FL), Felipe Lira (Brazil), Giangi Cappai (Italy), Guga Rahner (Brazil), Hector Fonseca (New York, NY), Herbie James (Fort Lauderdale, FL), Javier Medina (Barcelona, Spain), Joe Gauthreaux (Los Angeles, CA), Paulo (Los Angeles, CA), Phil Romano (Italy), Rafael Calvente (Brazil), Rosabel (Chicago, IL and Miami, FL), Run Sevim Run (Amman, Jordan and Miami, FL) and Whitney Day (New York, NY).

The first Winter Party took place in 1994 as a charity dance event on gorgeous South Beach. What was planned as a one-time event by SAVE (the predecessor to Save Dade), became a huge annual party. The Dade Human Rights Foundation was created to manage and execute the Winter Party as its own entity. They closed their doors in 2004 and National Gay and Lesbian Task Force came in and took over Winter Party Festival.

The Task Force’s mission is to build the political power of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community from the ground up. They do this by training activists, organizing broad-based campaigns to defeat anti-LGBT referenda and advance pro-LGBT legislation, and by building the organizational capacity of our movement.

The event has remained a popular fundraiser, with one third of the net proceeds of WPF supporting the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force’s efforts and the remaining two-thirds donated to local service organizations through a grant-making process administered by the Miami Foundation (formerly Dade Community Foundation).

“For 2012, we have worked event-by-event to deliver an exceptional experience for our guests on every level,” said Chad Richter, co-chair of the Winter Party Festival. “This year, we will again wow our guests whether they are a first timer to Winter Party or a faithful returner.”

“From event design to world class partnerships like Matinee, Hell & Heaven and for the first time ever — Gay Village from Rome — this will be the hottest year yet for Winter Party,” he added.
