bodytek-1When this week’s cover model, L.G. Weber, and his boyfriend, Mikey Verdugo (HGTV Design Star fame), decided to train people in their home, they did not realize how quickly their clientele would grow. In less than a year, in December of 2011, they opened a business in Davie. They named it Bodytek. Bodytek’s motto is “What Your Mind Believes, Your Body Can Achieve.”Channel 10 news voted them the #1 Gym in South Florida due to the results their clients are getting. Just a little over 3 months later, with over 400 clients, they are opening a second location in the heart of Wilton Manors on Saturday, March 31st.

Both L.G. And Mikey have an extensive background and are certified personal trainers. L.G., who is also a certified Firefighter and Paramedic, started in healthcare as he loves helping people. Working in the E.R. he did not get to see his patients get better. However, in personal training he sees the progression. Mikey has been working out for 23 years. He grew up at Gold’s Gym and worked there starting at the front desk, and then got into sales, followed by personal training and then went on to become the General Manager.

bodytek-2Bodytek centers on Group Personal training, which in recent times has become incredibly popular. L.G. said “group training the way Bodytek does it, with never more than 12 clients in a class, is the best of both worlds. You have trainers giving you personal attention, without paying the exorbitant fee that personal training costs.” While I was interviewing L.G. and Mikey one of their clients and now friend dropped by, Eva. When I asked her what value she got out of being a client at Bodytek she said “I have been improving regularly, have seen myself get stronger and I love being in this family environment. It’s so comfortable for me.”

When asked what separates Bodytek from other gyms Mikey said “We work on the core and the mid section; nontraditional stuff. Also, we never do the same workout twice so that clients do not get bored. We are extremely concerned with form to make sure our clients don’t get hurt.”

Bodytek has 9 instructors (male and female) who are all Certified Personal Trainers and they are open 7 days a week with the first class starting at 5:30 am and the last class ending at 8:30 pm. Their prices are extremely reasonable as low as $12 a class. They also have 2 specials going on right now. The first is their grand opening special of $99 for 10 classes of your choice (must be purchased by April 15th and used in 90 days). The second is the $159 unlimited for a month. Which is exactly what it sounds like, for $159 you can take as many classes as you like all month long.

Don’t forget the grand opening of Bodytek at 2216 N. Dixie Highway on Saturday March 31st from 8 am to 2 pm. The event will feature hostess Daisy Deadpetals, DJ Kidd Madonny spinning, FREE classes at 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 noon, FREE VPX supplements, Trent Baker owner of Rodeo Restaurant & Bar will be supplying nutritious and healthy meals from 10am to 1 pm and a ribbon cutting ceremony at noon.
