Put on your walking shoes and gather friends, family and coworkers for the 24th Annual AIDS Walk Miami which takes place on Sunday, April 22 at 8 a.m. at Miami Convention Center.
The 5K (3.1 mile) walk-a-thon fundraiser benefits Care Resource, South Florida’s oldest and largest HIV/AIDS community organization which provides Primary Medical Care, Dental, Psychosocial, Case Management, Outreach and Prevention, Food Bank, Home Delivered Meals and Nutritional counseling and education to over 15,000 residents living in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties who are either affected or infected with HIV/AIDS.
Funds raised from The Walk will also benefit Food For Life Network Food Bank, which provides meals and groceries, as well as nutritional counseling and education, to eliminate malnutrition and starvation in children and adults living with HIV/AIDS.
In addition, this annual fundraiser serves as a vital vehicle to raise awareness and funds to combat the effect HIV/AIDS continues to have on the South Florida region.
Expect to see some famous faces at the Walk. This year, the Grand Marshal is Sam Champion of ABC’s Good Morning America and the Master of Ceremonies is Scott Padgett of Local 10 News.
The event attracts thousands of participants and starts at Miami Beach Convention Center. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. followed by the opening ceremonies and invocation at 8:30 a.m. The Walk will begin promptly at 9 a.m. The walking course goes through Miami Beach’s historic district, Ocean Drive and Lincoln Road and ends at the Miami Beach Botanical Gardens where there will be entertainment sponsored by MTV Latin America. Walkers can enjoy the sounds of MTV’s house DJ Mauricio Parra and a special performance from Los Impostors at the celebration.
You can join a Walk team, as an individual participant or start a Walk team of your very own. Raise a minimum of $50 and receive an official AIDS Walk Miami T-shirt on the morning of the event.
