The Kinsey Sicks, the dragapella divas, are back in Florida and making 2 stops with their new show “Electile Dysfunction: The Kinsey Sicks for President.” This willfully warped version of a presidential campaign touches on education, immigration, unemployment, scandal, sex, corruption, pandering and social networking – and all in glorious 4-part harmony. The original songs and brilliant re-imaginings of classics at this performance include biting numbers such as “Sell the Poor,” “Eliminate the Schools,” and the campaign anthem, “Vote for Me (I’m Not From Kenya).”

sicks-1“Electile Dysfunction: The Kinsey Sicks for President” has already taken the stage in Washington, DC, New York City, Baltimore, Northampton, Denver, San Diego and Minneapolis, not to mention campaign stops in Kansas and Wyoming. The impact has been striking. According to the Kinsey Sicks, “Residents of those cities are now over 30% less likely to vote in November. We think our work there is done.” But their job isn’t done until they deliver their alternative platform in Florida. See their campaign video at: YouTube.com/KinseySicks.

This Tampa performance is a benefit for the Tampa International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival and takes place at 8 p.m. on August 24th at the Tampa Theatre, 711 N. Franklin Street, 813-274-8981- just blocks from the site of the 2012 Republican Convention. According to THE KINSEY SICKS, “We will be arriving [in Tampa] a couple days early to help Mitt choose his outfits and shellac his hair. Ann normally would be doing this, but frankly it’s the blonde leading the bland.” Tickets are available at Tampa Theatre box office, online at TampaTheatre.org/Kinsey-Sicks and Ticketmaster.

Their Fort Lauderdale performance takes place at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in the Amaturo Theater and takes place on Saturday August 25th at 8 pm. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at  BrowardCenter.org

sicks-2The Kinsey Sicks were spawned in San Francisco 18 years ago. Combining rich, four-part harmony, biting satire and over-the-top drag, The Kinsey Sicks has performed in 41 states, Mexico, Canada, Europe and Australia. They starred in their own Off-Broadway show at New York’s legendary Studio 54 and are the subjects of two feature films. In 2012, they released their eighth album, also called “Electile Dysfunction.” The New York Times has praised their “voices sweet as birdsong” and Billboard calls them “one act that should not be missed.” The San Francisco Chronicle says, “Their mangling of hit songs hits genius level.” Read more about The Kinsey Sicks at KinseySicks.com.
