Fairy Tales

The Rainbow Business Coalition of Greater Fort Lauderdale (RBC), who brought us the Stonewall Summer Pride event in June, is also behind the upcoming Wicked Wilton event in Wilton Manors, FL.

This Halloween event will occur on All Hallows’ Eve, October, 31, 2012. Admission to the event is free and Wilton Drive will be closed from N.E. 21st Court to Five Points for the event. The road will be closed from 3:00 p.m. until 3:00 a.m. to make room for the party that will run from 6:00 p.m. until Midnight on the street and in the area businesses. After Midnight the party continues in the local bars and nightclubs, many of which have extended their closing times until 3 a.m.

Costume contests will be held up and down the drive all night long. The first will be a pet costume contest at Georgie’s Alibi hosted by Florida’s own Dame Edna at 6 p.m. The schedule for the rest of the night is as follows:

8:30 – Rosies

8:45 – Wilton Bier Garden

9:15 – New Moon

9:45 – Alibi

10:15 – Matty’s

10:45 – The Village Pub

11:15 – Bill’s Filling Station

11:30 – The Manor

“Halloween in Wilton Manors has always proven to be a great party” said Jeff Shincarick RBC Board Member and General Manager at Bill’s Filling Station. “It’s one of the most successful events of the year and you are sure to see costumes that you never dreamed of or thought possible.”

The RBC is bringing in food vendors as well as setting up a “Spirit Station” on the street for revelers to grab a cocktail, or two, as they make their way up and down the drive to see and be seen.

The Wicked Wilton website is featuring a pre-event, online costume contest where contestants can enter photos of themselves in their previous year’s costumes. The winner, who will qualify for a cash prize, will be announced online prior to the start of the event. To enter, visit the event website at www.wickedwilton.com

Many of the venues up and down the drive will be featuring live entertainment, much of which will be announced in the upcoming week. So far we know that Electra will be the MC for a tribute to Alice in Wonderland at the Manor and Latrice Royale will be performing at Boom.

Extra parking has been arranged at various locations around the city and for a flat fee of $10 you can park for the duration of the event. Full information on the locations and hours of these sites will be available via the website a few days prior to the event.

The event is co-sponsored by the City of Wilton Manors and The Pride Center of South Florida who is also the beneficiary and will be receiving a portion of the proceeds from the event.

In addition to the website, you can also get up to date information on the event from the Wicked Wilton Facebook page, facebook.com/wickedwilton, and on Twitter @wickedwilton.
