Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for “fifth of May”) is a regionalholiday in Mexico, mostly celebrated in the state of Puebla, with some limited recognition in other parts of Mexico. The common misconception is that this is the Mexican New Year’s or Mexican Independence (celebrated September 16), however, the holiday commemorates the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862 under the leadership of Mexican General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín. Cinco de Mayo is not “an obligatory federal holiday” in Mexico, but rather a holiday that can be observed voluntarily. While Cinco de Mayo has limited significance nationwide in Mexico, the date is observed in the United States (also voluntarily) and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.

Discotekka celebrates Cinco de Mayo with a huge birthday extravaganza for owner Joe Marcella.
Parliament House celebrates with a themed party entitled “Tequila” with a special Footlight Players Revue with Latina guests Erika Norell, Michelle Du’Soleil and Alexis Mateo.
The Manor presents a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta. In the Latin room and patio they feature hostess Viva Mirage with special guest Taina Norell, who will also be celebrating her birthday along with DJ Larry Larr. In the Main room they present FU e= FU⁸ fashion show with DJ Oren Nizri.
Hilton Wolman, in association with Score, presents Salvation Cinco de Mayo and a birthday celebration for Mr. Wolman. Music is by the one and only DJ Abel.
Bill’s presents their annual Cinco de Mayo party starring Porsche with special guest, direct from New York City, Sherry Vine. Show time is at 11 pm with a balloon drop at midnight.
Sunday, May 5th
Cashetta’s Sunday show at The Alibi will have a special Cinco de Mayo theme. In addition they will feature a Pulled Pork ChimiChanga with Rice and Beans (or choice of side) for only $9.95.
Beefcakes present a Cinco de Mayo Sunday Brunch from 12 to 4 pm.
Solare Coliseum’s Noches De Cabaret Sundays starring Marytrini, Vinna Rouge and La Radisson with special guests features a special theme in honor of Cinco de Mayo entitled Viva Mexico!
Azucar ends the weekend with their Cabaret Night starring Teresita, Mariloly and Rossette, which will honor 5 de Mayo with a special presentation and a live Mariachi Band.
