Sun-pic1Psychedelic street artist Tyler Wallach from New York will be a special guest artist in residence at the Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber Of Commerce (MDGLCC) 12th Annual Gala and Awards Presentation, “Celebration of the Sun – The Yellow Gala,” on Saturday, June 22, at the Hilton Miami Downtown Hotel, 1601 Biscayne Blvd., Miami. The proclaimed love child of Keith Haring and Lisa Frank, Wallach’s CLOUDZ characters and graphics feature brightly colored street-art-inspired paintings, stickers and neon sunglasses.

While at its core, the gala is a networking event, we also wanted to inject the evening with some whimsy and entertainment,” said Steve Adkins, MDGLCC president.  “Ty’s artwork certainly is whimsical and seeing a piece of art being created right in front of you will be really interesting.”

The event is also a fundraiser, Adkins added, with proceeds from the evening benefitting the MDGLCC to help sustain the organization’s operations and the ever-increasing demand to expand its programming as membership grows. In addition to the live auction of Wallach’s art pieces, the gala will feature a silent auction with numerous items including an exotic trip for two to Curaçao, arguably the most LGBT-friendly island in the Caribbean, courtesy of the Curaçao Tourist Board.

Other highlights of the silent auction will be an autographed Fender guitar, signed by Adam Lambert, courtesy of Hard Rock Café; travel packages to New York, Laguna Beach, Montreal, Las Vegas and San Francisco; IKEA furniture; and “Ocho” show tickets courtesy of the Adrienne Arsht Center.

The awards portion of the gala will once again honor corporate and individual supporters of the Miami-Dade LGBT community for their long-term commitment to fostering diversity, as well as for their efforts in contributing to the overall well-being and quality of life in South Florida.  This year’s gala honorees are:

AT&T “Business of the Year Award” – Kaufman, Rossin & Co., P.A.

Sherwin-Williams “Businessperson of the Year Award” – David Bromstad

Regions Bank “Non-Profit Organization of the Year Award” – Miami-Dade County Public Schools

The 12th Annual Gala and Awards Presentation, “Celebration of the Sun – The Yellow Gala, Presented by Wells Fargo,” starts at 6 p.m. with a reception and silent auction which will be followed by dinner, the awards presentation and an after party in the hotel’s new nightclub ENCORE.
