WHSH2It is supposed to be the off-season, but you wouldn’t know that by the amount of events that were happening in South Florida this past week. Here are some of the events that happened this past week: On Wednesday, Jerry Torres and Ivan Cano hosted an Outgames 2017 Reception to honor Horacio Alvarado Bogantes, Mayor of Belen, Costa Rica; Wendy Iriepa and Ignacio Estrada, co-founders of the League Against AIDS & founders of the Cuban Human Rights Commission; Alfredo Villegas, volleyball LGBT tournament organizer for Mexico & Latino communities in the USA; and Barbara Howard, Trade and Travel Goodwill Ambassador to Kenya and Florida State Chair of the Congress of Racial Equality (C.O.R.E.) Also on Wednesday night, Urge in Miami had a fabulous party starring DJs Isaac Escalante and Abel. The Boardwalk featured adult video star Ryan Rose starting Wednesday and going all weekend long. On Thursday, the Village Pub presented the one and only Lady Bunny to the enjoyment of the crowd. On Friday, Twist in association with Creative Male featured a Hit & Sticky Underwear Party. In addition to Sharon, the night starred DJ Monty Q in the main room and Noche Latina Saturdays celebrated the birthday of Erika Norell and the Independence of Venezuela with Viva Mirage and DJ Larry Larr. It was just amazing to see so many people in one place! Sunday I just rested!

The GLBX (Gay and lesbian Business Exchange as part of the Greater Fort Lauerderdale Chamber of Commerce) presents an afterhours networking event as a benefit for Tools for Schools Broward at the Pride Center at Equality Park from 5:30 pm to 7 pm. They are asking all that attend to please bring any of the following needed supplies: Glue Sticks, Crayons, Index Cards, Pens, Pencils, Pink Erasers, Lined and plain paper, Two Pocket Folders, Dry Erase Markers. If you can’t shop prior to the event they kindly request a minimum $10 donation and they will do the shopping for you.

The Lake Worth Playhouse (713 Lake Ave in Downtown Lake Worth) sizzles this summer with In The Heights, a musical with contemporary dance including salsa, jazz and freestyle hip hop. In The Heights, a musical celebration, tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood – a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures; where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. Small Moments Project and the popular dating app Distinc.tt have partnered to create an online destination for same-sex couples to share their small moments with the world. Video submissions are already underway, with the first contest closing on July 31. The submission and voting rounds reopen quarterly over the next year.
