whsf bannerLast Wednesday, the Hard Rock Cafe featured their Talent Showdown 2013 with Miami-Dade Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce participation; the MC was Miami’s own George Neary. On Friday night, I headed over to Rumors for my long-time friend (oh, the stories), Daisy Deadpetals and her show. Her show happens every Friday at Rumors and stars Erika Norell and one guest, which this week was Mia Patrick (Miss Stonewall). I always have a fun time watching Daisy’s shows.

On Saturday night, Discotekka was celebrating their 6th anniversary with a Black Wear Party that starred many DJs (Carlos G, Renn, Sushi, Just Oliver and Tony) as well as all of their Divas. Congrats to Joe, Alyson, Danny, Milancita and the entire gang on six years and here’s wishing them many more years of success. Sunday was a busy day that started with Mova Brickell’s first monthly pool party entitled “Wet.” The party featured the sounds of DJ Scotty Thomson, the beautiful south Florida sun and lots and lots of water. Stay tuned for next month’s party. That night I headed to Boom for their famous Jackhammer T-Dance, which this weekend was celebrating Studio 54 and featured one of their original bartenders, Sal Delfalco. This was one of the busiest I have seen, Boom…congrats!

Score in Miami and Hilton Wolman presented Urge, the Labor Day edition, starring DJs Abel and Chris Cox. In Fort Lauderdale, Gary Santis presented the much-anticipated annual Black Party Fort Lauderdale, which took place at the Manor. The night starred the fabulous sounds of DJ Manny Lehman, recording artist Janice Robinson, SEXY hot go-go boys, midgets, circus acts and much more as we all explored the dark side. Once again Gary put on a fabulous party! Monday was my birthday so I rested and then had dinner with the family…. I may be getting too old for this…..nah!

On the other side of town, Ernesto evades life at home with his current live-in ex-boyfriend by spending much of his spare time in the hospital with an ailing past love. Impervious to the monotony of their blue-collar world, they maintain an unwavering yearning for romance. The understated, contemplative nature of Ernesto and Gabe’s story is told from the perspective of an observer, allowing us—even if just for a moment—to understand what it means to be an outsider. The emotional isolation the two men have grown accustomed to is captured in a subtle, optimistic, poetic fashion while avoiding melodrama. In a refreshingly quiet film, Tan’s protagonists never try to run away from their relatively hollow surroundings, but opt to fill life’s deepest voids with their tenacious confidence.” Tickets are $10 each + $2 transaction fee per order and are  available at: FLGLFF.com or by calling 305-751-6305 during regular business hours.
