whsf frid-anneChaos, Fashion and Philosophical Musings” could easily have been the title of this art exhibition at the Anne Kolb Nature Center in Hollywood (751 Sheridan Street) for the month of September but it is simply entitled “Paintings & Sculpture.” The show, which features the work of abstract painter Frank Crowley and clay artists Steven Sylvester and Ry Nielsen, will have its artists’ reception on tonight at 7:00pm. It is free and open to the public. Contemporary clay artist Sylvester uses his medium, which traditionally has been used mainly for utilitarian vessels and dinnerware, in an unconventional and exciting way. He creates dresses made of ceramics and wire examining the roles of modern women. Nielsen who also works with clay, explores the notions of monstrosity in his assemblages; spatial, emotional and social. The essence of his work is managed chaos. Crowley is presenting mixed media paintings from his new series ‘On the Ledge,’ which deals with confronting the thresholds and origins of creativity. This is the first time that multiple panels of this series will be shown together. The hours of the center are 9:00am – 5:30pm daily and the phone number is 954-357-5161.
