A week ago Monday was a busy night. It started at the Boardwalk, which was honoring the memory of my friend and community legend Jay Lynch (Ms. Beasley). It was a virtual who’s who of the nightclub industry as everyone came out to share fond memories of their friend Jay. Even Father Bill of Poverello came out. Later that night was the annual Miss Fort Lauderdale Large and Lovely pageant at Lips. Congrats to winner India Channel Braxton and 1st alternate Misty Eyez, who will both be representing Fort Lauderdale at the state pageant. On Tuesday, Sidelines celebrated the birthday of owner Laurie Whittaker with lots of fanfare, the way only Sidelines can. Later that night, I went back over to Boardwalk (twice in one week) for my buddy Danny’s (one of the best bartenders in Fort Lauderdale) going away party and to see another friend (for fear of incriminating myself I will not tell you how many years we know each other) Velvet LeNore’s Male 2 Male revue. (By the way, it was a lot of fun.) If you haven’t been yet, put it on your things-to-do list. On Wednesday, The Village Pub presented the official “It’s a Wrap” party for the Smart Ride which was hosted by Smart Ride founder Glen Weinzimer. On Friday night, NVEEE (National Voices For Equality, Education, and Enlightenment) hosted the Voices of Leadership Award Party at Brasiliero Restaurant in Miami, and celebrated those who brought awareness to their anti-bullying campaign. NBC 6’s Willard Shepard hosted the ceremony, which honored select individuals and businesses that have helped NVEEE achieve their goals. On Saturday, The Royal Palms Resort and Spa presented “Art Arousal,” an erotic art show that featured performances by DJ D-Stu, Ivann, and Joe Posa as Joan Rivers. They also featured an art auction that benefited Sunserve as well as a birthday toast for Dennis Dean. Later that night, Steve Grand performed at the Sunshine Cathedral to a packed house.

LADY GAGA came to prominence following the release of her debut studio album The Fame (2008), which sold over 15 million copies worldwide. Her contributions to the music industry have garnered her numerous achievements including five Grammy Awards amongst fifteen nominations, thirteen MTV Video Music Awards amongst twenty-six nominations, and the estimated sale of 24 million albums and 90 million singles worldwide. She has travelled the world on numerous tours including 2008’s The Fame Ball, 2009-2011’s The Monster Ball and 2012-2013’s Born This Way Ball. An HBO television special titled Lady Gaga Presents the Monster Ball Tour: At Madison Square Garden earned an Emmy Award amongst its five nominations. Her third studio album, Born This Way, broke the iTunes record for the fastest rise to the # 1 on release day. In 2013, Time Magazine named her the second most influential person of the decade. With over 2.5 billion combined views of all her videos online, Lady Gaga is one of the biggest living forces in social media with over 60 million likes on Facebook and over 40 million followers on Twitter. She is also a global activist and philanthropist, having been an outspoken supporter of many important issues including LGBT rights, HIV/AIDS awareness, body image issues, and youth empowerment. In 2011, she launched her own Born This Way Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to empowering youth and creating a kinder and braver world. In 2011 she also built & launched a social network just for her fans, LittleMonsters.com. Lady Gaga is the only artist in the digital era to top the 5 million sales mark with her first two hits. Lady Gaga’s fourth studio album, ARTPOP, was released 2 weeks ago in conjunction with an app developed by TechHAUS, the technological branch of HAUS OF GAGA. HAUS OF GAGA venges with forte to bring the music industry into a new age; an age where art drives pop, and the artist once again is in control of the “icon.” ARTPOP could mean anything. But for Lady Gaga, this is a celebration of obsession. Applause is definitely the hottest song on the radio currently and Lady Gaga deserves applause for her new album, Art Pop!
