A lot of exciting things are coming up in the next few weeks in Central Florida! Billy Joel and Barry Manilow will be here, and I’m personally on the edge of my seat waiting for Martika at Parliament House! (More on her next week.) But for this week, we have ten different events that you’ll enjoy, and some of them benefit very good causes. Enjoy! Lots of love to you all.
I’m going to start off this week’s column with one of my favorite weekly events in Central Florida. Hamburger Mary’s in Tampa presents their Mary’s Got Talent night every Thursday. Alexis Mateo and Anjila Cavalier, the hostesses, have snatched many trophies and tiaras over the years, so I don’t know who could be better to find the stars of tomorrow. The show time is 8:30, so be sure to reserve your table ahead of time!
Like leather and bondage? Sawmill Resort in Dade City will be hosting a Leather/Bondage Domination Weekend starting today and going on through Sunday. Be sure to bring your dog tags for the special BDSM party: red means dom and green means sub!
The Abbey in Orlando hosts Dream in Color, a benefit concert series supporting the Live Through Love Foundation, an organization that awards college scholarships to LGBT youth who have the courage to live honestly and openly. The evening is hosted by Carol Lee and entertainment includes The Edge Effect, introducing Casey Conroy, and Barbra Streisand tribute artist Carla DelVillaggio. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. $10 suggested donation requested.
The Jobsite Theater at the Shimberg Playhouse puts on a production of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Hound of the Baskervilles at the Straz Center in downtown Tampa. Performances run until February 2. To purchase tickets, go to strazcenter.org. Showtimes are every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m.
Friday January 10
A hot new addition to the club scene in Central Florida is The Brink Orlando‘s Foreplay Fridays. The Brink features three different dance rooms with their own unique groove: an EDM room, a house/Top 40 room, and an open format “yesterday and today” pop music room. Is it all too much for you? There’s also a patio for relaxation. Be prepared for a fun drag show starting at 12:30 a.m., featuring special surprise guests!
Saturday January 11
Chill Chamber in New Port Richey will be throwing their Capricorn Party this evening. If you’re born during the current zodiac sign, you get in free of charge; ask your bartender what else is coming your way! There will be fun and a late night show for all, Capricorns or otherwise!
I haven’t promoted a burlesque show in a while, so it was good that I read about Them Damned Dames, who will be performing at The Broken Tusk in St. Petersburg. They will put on two shows, one at 11:30 and one at 1 a.m. The show will feature Franki Markstone, Kissa Von Addams, Chris Geyer and Vita Devoid.
Drag performers Kelli Randell and Coco Biatche headline The Village Follies’ Super Saturdays at The Ultra Lounge in Cocoa. The bar is open at 4 p.m., so feel free to pop in for happy hour, go out for dinner, and return for the show at 11:30!
You got to know her during her time on American Idol and you fell in love with her during her two years on the NBC drama Smash. Katharine McPhee will be at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater for one night only, tonight, starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at rutheckerdhall.com.
Monday January 13
Stonewall Bar Orlando loves throwing a movie night every Monday night, and this month the theme is “Cult and Kitsch.” Tonight they will be showing The Big Gay Musical starting at 8 p.m. There will be film trivia at intermission and if you get the answers right, you have the chance to win some cool prizes!
