I had a great time in Melbourne! Sadly I didn’t get to see Page King at Cold Keg Nightclub. But I will be able to see her when I get over to Orlando in just two short weeks! Speaking of, have you all heard about Parliament House’s White Party? They are bringing in six of RuPaul’s season six girls! If you want to see Courtney, Bianca, Ben, Darienne, Laganja and Adore, make sure you’re there between April 11 and 13; they will be there all three nights! Feel free to love me for that tip. I love you! Lots!
Thursday March 27
The Backwoods Bears Club presents their first event of the year at Sawmill Resort in Dade City. It’s called Grizzlyfest and it kicks off this evening with a Bare As You Dare Evening. Everybody loves those! For a more detailed weekend schedule, go to flsawmill.com, but if you want a cabin, hurry, as vacancies are limited!
You may remember her from season five of FOX’s American Idol: Tampa Bay darling Melissa McGhee will be performing live at Georgie’s Alibi in St. Petersburg to what will no doubt be a packed house. Her show will start at 8 p.m., you better be there!
Friday March 28
Never miss a show at Hamburger Mary’s Clearwater if you can help it! There are three on Friday nights, and they feature the talents of Jocelyn Summers (she just won another crown recently; ask her about it!), Alicia Markstone, Chi Chi Lalique, and a special guest that changes weekly. Reserve your spot at any one of the three Friday shows by calling (727) 400-6996.
Saturday March 29
For those of you who want to help raise money for the Hope and Help Center of Central Florida, the 2014 AIDS Walk Orlando starts at 8:30 a.m. at Lake Eola Park. Get there at 7:30 for registration. Walk in solidarity with the people who need your help here in the Orlando metro area.
In the evening, Parliament House is promising “a mindblowing experience in light and sound” at the Glow Party. The acclaimed Footlight Players will be performing at 10 p.m. and midnight and DJ Brianna Lee will be spinning until 3 a.m. All AIDS Walk Orlando participants get in to the complex for free.
Enjoy a dinner at Hamburger Mary’s Orlando in Church Street Station! Leigh Shannon is presenting her Cabaret Dinner Show this evening and it is not to be missed! Be seated by 7:30 for her show at 8:30. Call in advance to reserve your table because she sells out literally EVERY Saturday. (321) 319-0600
Do you like a good hootenanny? Stonewall Bar Orlando presents the Red Hot Rockabilly Throwdown, hosted by Jay Skinner, who will be playing rockabilly inside from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. The Blast Offs perform live on stage at 11 p.m. And if you’re feeling like getting some ink, there will be a tattoo artist on the patio.
Experience the sights and sounds of eight different countries at the Party Around the World event at GBar in Tampa. Bruce Devery is a local DJ I like very much, and I’m in for a treat because he will be providing the music this evening, alongside Charles Machado. This week’s drag show, featuring Amy Demilo and Alisa Summers, will serve international realness. Doors open at 9 p.m. and there’s no cover before 10.
Sunday March 30
The weather is warming up and it’s such a beautiful time of year in Central Florida. How refreshing is it to be able to relax with friends and watch the world go by? You can do that every Sunday at Bradley’s on 7th in Tampa. The outside patio is open all day and night, and on Sundays the bar opens early, at 2:30 p.m. There’s never a cover at Bradley’s!
The Olympics in Sochi may have been so February, but Flamingo Resort in St. Petersburg is betting that some Olympics fans will come over and cheer on their favorite queens in the Drag Queen Olympics. Watch these glamazons compete in such athletic pursuits as purse-throwing, the big wig run, and the high-heel obstacle course. Sales at the bar will benefit a Florida transgender charity. For more information, contact Tiffany McCray at (727) 321-5000.
