There’s a new gay club in Pinellas County and it’s opening its doors just in time to welcome partygoers for this year’s St. Pete Pride celebrations. This establishment is called Enigma, and it is located at 1110 Central Avenue, less than a mile from this year’s parade route and adjacent to Tropicana Field, home of baseball’s Tampa Bay Rays.
Opening celebrations will start on Thursday, June 12, with a big grand opening bash. Get there early and enjoy the swinging sounds of the wild with local music group Lounge Cat at 7 p.m. Owner Ed Gonzalez calls Lounge Cat “very fun and unique.” At 10 p.m., Tampa Bay native and American Idol season five finalist Melissa McGhee will be on hand to sing some of your favorite hits. Enigma also boasts a state-of-the-art light and sound system and that customers should expect a lot of fun surprises, including specials, contests and giveaways. “We do have other exciting acts [and surprises] that are true to [the bar’s] name…we’d like to keep them a mystery” until the grand opening, Gonzalez added.
When asked what he hopes to bring to the Tampa Bay gay nightlife scene, Gonzalez told Hotspots, “Our goal is to provide an experience full of new twists not before seen in the Bay Area…[We want to] continuously improve our establishment with great attention to detail and service. We have something planned for every single night of the week.” He promised us that more details will be coming very soon.
After the grand opening, Enigma will be open seven days a week from noon until 3 a.m. The bar features two pool tables, a unique dart board area, a sound and light system complete with DJ on Fridays and Saturdays, as well as a sidewalk lounge and bar, which Gonzalez tells us is already a hit with the public ever since last month’s soft opening.
