The Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida has put together a cheerful, uplifting and nostalgic program for the final concert cycle of its 2013-14 season.
Performances of Believe! Wishes Do Come True will begin at 8 p.m., June 20-21, in the Sunshine Cathedral, which is located at 1480 SW 9th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. General admission tickets cost $35 for both the Friday show and the Saturday show, and they are available online at gmcsf.org.
Focusing heavily on music from Disney productions (such as Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Aladdin, Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Lady and the Tramp, The Little Mermaid, and Mary Poppins), the program also will feature selections from Anastasia, Company, Ragtime, and Metamorphosis. Many of works were arranged by the chorus’ artistic director, Gordon Roberts, and the assistant conductor, Harold Dioquino.
Along with solos by chorus members, the concert will include several numbers performed by guest soloist Kristen DiNonno Noffsinger. A well-known South Florida professional singer, she has also performed with the Master Chorale of South Florida, the Lynn University Symphony, Florida Atlantic University’s Wind Symphony of Florida, the Boca Jazz Rats Big Band, and other South Florida musical organizations. She is also recording a solo CD that is to be released the end of August.
In September 2009, 44 singers gathered together to form the Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida. Over four seasons, under the musical direction of Roberts and Dioquino, the membership has grown to approximately 160 singers, and the chorus has become a popular and vital part of South Florida’s cultural scene.
