You Just Can’t Make This Stuff Up!
Trips to Key West are always crazy fun. Whe you travel with Judy B. Goode, you know it’s going to be wild. We had just purchased our new van when Judy booked a show at Donnie’s International in Key West. We parked the van next to the back door and used it as our dressing room. The locals loved Judy and her show. Then I walked in on stilts in full costume. The club went nuts! I performed several songs with Judy, then sat down on the bar top. After the show, Carrie talked us into staying in full costume and we walked down Duval Street. We couldn’t walk five feet without being stopped for photos. The next day we were walking down the street, and we heard Judy singing in a bar. We walked in and they were playing her CD we sold them the night before!
Three Things Everybody Over 30 Should Do
To maintain good health, there are a couple things everybody over 30 should do. Our #1 best tip is to drink aloe vera juice every day. It cures heartburn, indigestion, intestinal problems and so much more. Just think about how aloe helps heal burns. Now think how it would work inside your body. All our sisters agree that a good fish oil will help improve heart and keep your blood veins clear. Anybody who drinks alcohol must take milk thistle. This is the only vitamin that actually grows new liver. We all know how important this is. We are not doctors but we know by experience that these three things are beneficial to our health.
Delta Lambda Phi Fraternity National Meeting in Tampa
The oldest and only national gay fraternity, Delta Lambda Phi, held its national meeting in downtown Tampa. The 31 chapter fraternity (not including four colony chapters on university campuses) is on a growth spurt, said one of the officers.
They chose Tampa for their national meeting because of its diversity, weather, hospitality and convention meeting space. A few alumni also live in Tampa Bay area. The 400+ attendees held a lot of their after-meeting adventures in GaYBOR.
“We welcomed the national campus fraternity delegates and showed them another side of positive gay life here in Tampa!” said Carrie West after sharing the GaYBOR District maps with the group.
There isn’t a chapter in Tampa Bay. The closest chapter is in Orlando with another Florida chapter located at the University of Miami. The fraternity has chapters in 20 states.
Human Rights Ordinance in Hillsborough Co. Hearing
The hearing to add sexual orientation and gender identity to the non-discrimination ordinances in Hillsborough County was with little fanfare but a step in the right direction.
The commissioners met at the weekly meeting and Commissioner Kevin Beckner educated the other commissioners after a dozen speakers spoke in front of the commissioners. The change needed to be made, the many speakers echoed, for a wide variety of reasons.
All of the local media in the area put in their opinions. All were in favor of the change to add sexual orientation and gender identity to the Hillsborough County Human Rights Ordinance.
Letters from the owners of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Tampa Bay Rays and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers all supported the addition of sexual orientation and gender identity to the new Hillsborough County non-discrimination ordinance.
The first reading of the bill passed with a vote of 7-0, sending the issue to the Hillsborough County Diversity Council for correct verbiage, then onto the county attorney for final reading in front of the commissioners.
