How long have you been practicing Laser Vision Correction?

For the last 16 years. I started in South Florida in 1998 and have performed over 40,000 laser vision correction procedures.

Who is a candidate for Laser Vision Correction?

pannu_1 copyMost people with good vision when wearing glasses or contacts, but would like to be less dependent on them.  However, a full medical eye exam needs to be performed to make sure there is no medical eye concerns in having the procedure.

How painful is Laser Vison Correction?

We numb the eyes with anesthetic drops and give the patient Valium to help them relax.  Patients often say they only felt a mild pressure sensation. The procedure takes 10 minutes to perform, five minutes on each eye.

What is the downtime after the procedure?

The downtime is usually just the evening of the procedure. Most patients are driving themselves to their one-day check up and often seeing 20/20 the very next day.

Tell me about your staff.

We have a highly-trained, dedicated and very friendly staff. Most of them have been with Pannu Laser Vision Institute for more than 10 years. Many of the staff are bilingual to accommodate both our English and Spanish clienteles. pannu_3 copy

How dedicated are you to your practice?

Extremely — I am involved with every aspect of the practice such as answering phone calls (i.e. how we respond to patients questions and concerns), marketing (i.e. the message Pannu Laser Vision portrays to the public), and IT (I have a strong understanding of all our medical as well as non medical equipment), to performing all laser vision correction procedures (to ensure the best possible vision and results for our patients). I run weekly meetings with the staff to address any office, staff or patient concerns and to address them in a timely and efficient manner.

Are you available for patients with special needs?

Yes — we will try to make every accommodation possible for all patients, as we always have.

Do you take insurance?

We are on the majority of medical health insurance plans available here in South Florida.

What’s your hometown and where did you attend university?

pannu_2 copyI am overall a Midwesterner. I spent the early years of my life in the suburbs of Chicago, and then I moved to Texas for high school. I attended the University of Missouri – Kansas City for college and medical school as part of a six-year (instead of the traditional eight-year) accelerated program. I then went to the world-famous Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota for eye surgery training, followed by an extra year in New Orleans as a fellowship-trained Cornea Transplant and Laser Vision Correction Surgeon under the direction of Marguerite McDonald, who is credited with performing the world’s first laser vision correction procedure.

Where is your office located?

We have three offices conveniently located throughout Broward County: Fort Lauderdale (Oakland and 441), Davie (595 and Hiatus) and Weston (I-75 and Royal Palm Blvd.).

Do you have any awards?

I was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society at the completion of medical school; [that society] accepts only the top 10% of the class.  Since then, I have been awarded many certificates for skills in Laser Vision Correction, including being recognized as one of “America’s Top Ophthalmologists” by the Consumer’s Research Council of America for twelve years in a row (2002-2013). I was also awarded the “Patient’s Choice Award” each year from 2010 to 2013 for excellent patient care.

What is your philosophy?

pannu_4 copyI enjoy both my personal life and work life to the fullest. This translates to better relationships with family, friends, co-workers, and patients.
