Las Olas Art Fair

Fort Lauderdale,

October 18-19, 2014

One of the largest art appreciation events in the state of Florida, the Las Olas Art Fair will celebrate its 27th year this year. This South Florida tradition has grown over the years to become one of the top 100 art events in the United States, according to Sunshine Artist Art and Craft Show Magazine.

Over 50,000 art lovers are expected to pack Las Olas Boulevard near the vicinity of Southeast 6th Street in Fort Lauderdale as over 150 artists show off their work for interested buyers. The Las Olas Air Fair will be held this year on Saturday, October 18, and Sunday, October 19, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

The artists line up their work along the street as if people were browsing in a makeshift art gallery. These artists work in varied media, such as painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, wood, fiber, metal art, clay, glass, jewelry, and even handbags. Throughout the weekend, people can peruse the works of art on display, talk to the creators, ask about their techniques and what inspires them when they create art, and even ask if a piece of art can be commissioned to their specifications. If you like what’s on display, you can buy it right then and there. Las Olas Art Fair prides itself on displaying local artists’ works and selling it to connoisseurs at affordable prices. There will also be a jury giving out awards to the most promising art pieces.

People attending the event can also participate in a giveaway. Gainesville-based artist and photographer Michael Jasinski has donated the photograph “Whispering Wave,” which measures 36 inches by 60 inches and retails for $595.

The Las Olas Art Fair is presented by Howard Alan Events, and is sponsored by Cadillac and Amazon Local. For more information, call (561) 746-6615 or visit ArtFestival.com.
