The five-time Tony Award-winning musical Into the Woods has been loved by millions of fans ever since it made its premiere in San Diego in 1986 and on Broadway a year later. Even our associate publisher, Scott Holland, has raved about the stage production, easily rating it among his favorites. People are also currently being captivated by the movie production, which is in theaters now and stars Meryl Streep, James Corden and Emily Blunt. If you’d like to enjoy the production on the stage, look no further than the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami.

The DreamCatcher Theatre regional theater company is staging a production of Into the Woods as part of the Theater Up Close 2014-15 season. The company will be performing at the Arsht Woods_copy2Center’s Carnival Studio Theater from Thursday, January 22 all the way through to Sunday, February 15.

This musical, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine, who was also the original director in San Diego and on Broadway, is a larger-than-life fairy tale with fanciful characters and an enjoyable plot. The characters seen in the film were inspired, either directly or indirectly, from much-loved fairy tales. Characters from “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Cinderella,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” “Rapunzel,” and others can be seen interacting with one another to create an all new fairy tale that you’ll remember for a long time.

The DreamCatcher Theatre’s repertory company will be supplying the actors for this production. The company is native to South Florida and was started by Natalie and JJ Caruncho of Miami, who are brother and sister and both trained actors and singers. They will be making their Arsht Center debut with this production.

Tickets are on sale for Into the Woods right now and start at $50 per person. Performance dates are every Wednesday through Sunday, with performance times scheduled for 7:30 p.m. every one of those days, with an added 2 p.m. matinee on Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets for the entire four-show Theater Up Close series can be bought for $150 as well. Visit arshtcenter.org or call the box office at (305) 949-6722 for any of your ticket needs.
