The City of Miami Gardens presents one of its most popular events of the year, the annual Jazz in the Gardens concerts. Join over 70,000 people as they fill SunLife Stadium, home of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins, and enjoy some of the best jazz and R&B music this country has to offer. This is the tenth annual Jazz in the Gardens, and it starts out with a big party on Friday, March 20, followed by two days of concerts on Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22.JazzFestival_copy1

The first event is the opening night party, which will be held at the Miramar Cultural Center on the Plaza (2400 Civic Center Pl., Miramar) on Friday, March 20 at 7 p.m. The event will be hosted by Rickey Smiley from the nationally syndicated Rickey Smiley Morning Show and TV’s Dish Nation. Also appearing are Rickey Smiley’s friends Headkrack, Claudia Jordan, Gary with da Tea, Special K, Lavar Walker and Cory “Zooman” Miller. There will also be live performances by the DMC Band. Tickets for this party are $50 in advance and $60 at the door. Visit jazzinthegardens.com to purchase your advance ticket.

The concerts begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 21 with a performance by local artist Karina Iglesias, who you know from NBC’s The Voice and from her many appearances across South Florida. At 5 p.m., Sheila E takes the stage, followed by the “Men of Soul” (Jeffrey Osborne, Peabo Bryson and Freddie Jackson) at 6:20. At 9 p.m., Toni Braxton will be performing, and R. Kelly will be closing out the first night, starting at 10:30.

JazzFestival_copy2On Sunday, March 22, the concerts start at 4 p.m. with a performance from local artist Valerie Tyson. The Jazz in the Gardens All-Star Band plays at 4:35, followed by Brian Culbertson at 5:55. Then, three big names run the events this evening: Run DMC will take the main stage at 7:10, followed by Erykah Badu at 8:30 and Maxwell closes out the festival at 10 p.m.

Tickets are on sale now at jazzinthegardens.com and they come in general admission, reserved, and VIP packages. General admission tickets start at $55 for a one-day pass and $85 for two days ($67 and $105, respectively, if bought during the concert). The biggest VIP package on sale is the Gold Ambassador package, which gives you two VIP experience tickets to the Friday pre-party, two front-row tickets for both days of the concerts, and exclusive Jazz in the Gardens merchandise, like a laminate and a T-shirt, among other perks.
