Mario López, ha prometido quitarle la camisa en el desfile de Miami Beach Gay Pride cuando viene a servir como gran mariscal del evento el próximo mes de abril. Ok, Ok, Ok, no es cierto, pero todos podemos soñar, ¿no? Sí es cierto que López, anfitrión del programa Extra, va a servir como el gran mariscal del desfile y también es cierto que es un campeón de las causas LGBT.
López, de ascendencia mexicana, creció en San Diego, California y lanzó a la fama cuando protagonizó a AC Slater en el programa famosa Saved By the Bell. Con sus pantalones estrechitos, uniformes de la lucha libre, y afición de quitarle la camisa, el papel de Slater ayudó a Mario López a desarrollar una enorme base de fans. Muy rápido se dio cuenta de que tenía muchos fans gay.
Su primer papel, antes de Saved By the Bell, era en el programa de los ´80 Las Chicas de Oro (The Golden Girls) una de las primeras programas estadounidenses de tratar de la homosexualidad en una manera positiva. Mario también protagonizó a Greg Louganis, el nadador estadounidense que salió del closet y anuncio que era seropositivo tras ganar un montón de medallas de oro en los juegos olímpicos de 1984 y 1988.
Mario es famoso por su cuerpo increíble y no tiene miedo de mostrarlo al mundo. (Otra razón que es súper popular con la comunidad gay)En 2008, posó en la revista People donde recreó varios poses famosos de hombres desnundos o casi sin ropa. Quizás la mejor de todas las fotos es la recreación de la foto famosa de la revista Playgirl. La foto original muestra el actor estadounidense, Burt Reynolds, desnudo en una alfombra de piel de oso. Y la reproducción con López muestra sus abdominales fantásticos pero no las joyas familiares. ¡Qué cuerpazo!
GLAAD le reconoció como un aliado a nuestra comunidad en 2011 y en la alfombra roja al llegar a la gala de reconocimiento López dijo que era muy orgulloso de ser un invitado especial y que siempre ha apoyado las causas LGBT. Varios años después, recibió el criticismo de nuestra comunidad por sus comentarios expresando su deseo de comer en la cadena Chick Fila, una empresa que donó millones de dólares una campaña anti-gay en la California.
A pesar de sus antojos para un sándwich de pollo, Mario López sigue siendo un aliado de la comunidad LGBT y va a usar el desfile de Miami Beach Gay Pride este mes de abril, para mostrar su apoyo cuando sirve como Gran Mariscal del desfile de orgullo gay. El desfile, que correrá una trayectoria a lo largo de Ocean Drive en South Beach, se llevará a cabo este 12 de abril al mediodía. Se esperan miles de espectadores y un día muy caliente, así que debes llegar temprano y bien preparado para pasar un día fantástico.
To the delight of thousands of gay men across South Florida, Mario Lopez promised he would take his shirt off during the Miami Beach Gay Pride Parade when he comes to town to serve as the Grand Marshal!
Ok, ok. That’s not true, but we can all dream right? What is true is that Lopez, the host of TV’s Extra will serve as the grand marshal of the parade and it’s also true that he’s a champion for LGBT causes.
Lopez, who is of Mexican descent, grew up in San Diego and shot to fame when he portrayed AC Slater on Saved by the Bell. With his tight pants, wrestling uniforms, and affinity to take his shirt off, the roll of Slater helped Lopez develop a huge fan base; it didn’t take him long to figure out that a large part of that fan base were gay men.
His first roll, even before he was cast in Saved by the Bell, was a guest spot on The Golden Girls, one of the first American TV shows to cast homosexuality in a positive light. Mario also went on to play Greg Louganis, the American Olympic diver, who came out of the closet and announced he was HIV+ after winning several gold medals in the 1984 and 1988 Olympic games.
Mario Lopez has become famous for his incredible body and he’s certainly not shy about showing it off. (The real reason he’s so popular with our community). In 2008 he posed for a People Magazine photo shoot that had him recreate other nude or mostly nude photos popular with American readers. Perhaps the best of that shoot one where he recreated a famous shot from Playgirl Magazine. The original picture was of the actor Burt Reynolds lying naked on a bear skin rug. The reproduction with Mario Lopez shows off the actor’s fantastic abs, but (unfortunately) doesn’t show off the “family jewels”. What a body!
GLAAD recognized him as an LGBT ally in 2011 and while on the red carpet for the corresponding gala, Lopez mentioned how proud he was of being invited to participate in the event and that he’s always been a supporter of LGBT causes. However, just a year later he faced widely publicized criticism from the community when he tweeted about his desire to eat Chick Fila on Sunday, when the fast food chain is closed. Chick Fila was/is being boycotted by many in the LGBT community for the company’s donation of millions of dollars to fight marriage equality in California.
Despite his cravings for a certain chicken sandwich, Mario Lopez has continued to act as an ally for the LGBT community and he will use the Pride Parade at Miami Beach Gay Pride to further show his support for the community. Lopez will serve as the grand marshal of the parade which will take place on Sunday April 12 at noon. The parade will take place along the Art Deco section of Ocean Drive and will be followed by tons of fun at the Pride festival that will take place in Lummos Park. Pride organizers are expecting thousands of spectators for the parade so get there early and come prepared for an amazing day.
