Adora: Teddy, ¿has visto el mensaje que te envié en Facebook? Rolando Barrero está organizando una exposición de arte que él está llamando #LoveWins sobre el tema del matrimonio para la comunidad LGBT.
Teddy: Sí … su página de Facebook se llama “Activista Artista” lo mismo que su galería, y es una llamada a los artistas, tanto aficionados como profesionales, de todo tipo, a presentar trabajos sobre el tema “Love Wins.” Tenemos que presentar algo , ¿no crees?
Adora: Por supuesto, ¿pero qué? El anuncio dice que puede ser el arte del performance, palabra hablada, la danza, el arte sonoro, la instalación, 2 o 3 dimensiones, cinética … todo está permitido. Tengo tantas ideas: yo podría hacer una instalación, el interior de mi camerino por ejemplo … o una pieza de performance 2 horas de ponerme el maquillaje …
Teddy: Se dice que cualquiera puede enviar 3 imágenes o propuestas para una tarifa de $ 20, pero tiene que ser presentada antes del 15 de julio. Las presentaciones son aceptadas por correo electrónico, buzón, o enlace de vídeo. El espectáculo es jueves 23 de julio, la misma noche de los estudios abiertos en Boynton Beach Arts District. Habrá un montón de otras aberturas allí la misma noche.
Adora: … O tal vez sólo yo haciendo una lip-sync de toda la producción de La Traviata con Maria Callas … que esta sí se trata de como gana el amor… o ¿crees que dura demasiado tiempo?
Teddy: Bueno, podríamos enviar la foto de nosotros besándonos; cuando me vestí como un soldado y y tú vestida de musulmán.
Adora: El anuncio la llama una “Exposición y Celebración”… ¡quiero celebrar! Rolando se ha comprometido con los derechos LGBT desde que comenzó la crisis del SIDA en la década los 80: él formaba parte de ACT-UP, y más luego Queer Nation; siempre utilizando el arte como una forma de avanzar nuestros derechos y seguridad. Él realmente luchó por esto durante años y tengo muchas ganas de celebrar con él.
Teddy: Ahora es un héroe; muchos jóvenes no se dan cuenta de cuánto miedo causó el sida, cuando tantas personas estaban muriendo horriblemente y la corriente principal no le importaba. El derecho a contraer matrimonio no fue entregado a nosotros; hemos luchado por ello.
Adora: Sí Hay MUCHO que celebrar, sobre todo para la gente como Rolando, que realmente lucharon por todos nosotros. El arte es un gran vehículo para informar, para celebrar, para la sensibilización a través de los sentimientos, y para unir a las personas. Así que, tal vez yo debería vestirme como Judy Garland haciendo el papel de Juana de Arco … y tú podrías ser Pee Wee Herman. Talvez nos casamos allí mismo, en la galería … Sería un espectáculo. ¿no?
Adora: Teddy, did you see the message I sent you on Facebook? Rolando Barrero is organizing an art exhibit called #LoveWins on the theme of same sex marriage.
Teddy: Yes… his Facebook page is called “Activista Artista” the same as his gallery, and it’s a call to artists, both amateur and professional, of all types, to submit work on the theme “Love Wins.” We have to submit something, don’t you think?
Adora: Of course, but what? The announcement says it can be performance art, spoken word, dance, sound art, installation, 2 or 3 dimensional, kinetic… everything is allowed. I have so many ideas: I could do an installation, the inside of my dressing room for example… or a 2 hour performance piece of me putting on my makeup…
Teddy: It says anyone can submit 3 images or proposals for a $20 fee but it has to be in by July 15th. Submissions are accepted by email, drop box, or video link. The show itself is Thursday July 23, the night of the open studios in Boynton Beach Arts District. There will be a lot of other openings there the same night.
Adora: …or maybe just me lip-syncing the entire production of La Traviata with Maria Callas… that’s about love winning… or do you think it’s too long?
Teddy: Well, we could always submit the photo of me as a soldier and you as a Muslim kissing.
Adora: I guess… The announcement calls it an “Exhibition and Celebration” I want to CELEBRATE!! And, Rolando has been committed to LGBTQ rights since the AIDS crisis started in 
the 1980’s: he was in ACT-UP, and later Queer Nation; always using art as a way of advancing our rights and safety. He really fought for this for years and I want to celebrate with him.
Teddy: He’s a hero now; some of the people coming up now don’t realize how scary AIDS was, when so many people were dying so horribly and mainstream didn’t care. The right to marry wasn’t handed to us; it was fought for.
Adora: There IS a lot to celebrate, especially for people like Rolando, who really fought for all of us. And, art is a great vehicle for informing, for celebrating, for raising awareness through feelings, and for bringing people together. So, maybe I should do Judy Garland doing Joan of Arc…and you could be Pee Wee Herman. Well get married right there in the gallery… How’s that for performance?
