A medida que llega el 5º Festival Celebrate ORGULLO, echamos un vistazo a lo que el único festival del Orgullo LGBT hispano en el sur de la Florida representa para a la comunidad, porque existe, que nos da, y qué podemos esperar durante su mes de ORGULLO.
Creamos el Festival Celebrate ORGULLO como vehículo para presentar el talento, orgullo & herencia de la comunidad LGBT hispana, creando un evento donde toda la comunidad pudiera reunirse y celebrar, unificar y trabajar juntos. Una manera de romper con los estereotipos y reunir a todo el sur de la Florida. No existe otro festival como Celebrate ORGULLO. La Unity Coalition|Coalicion Unida es la primera y la única organización en el sur de la Florida para la comunidad latina|hispana LGBTQ – avanzando igualdad desde el 2002, y también somos los productores de Celebrate ORGULLO. Tomamos el 100% de nuestras ganancias y lo invertimos en nuestra comunidad en forma de talleres, asistencia y nuestro programa de Becas Universitarias LGBT.
Celebrate ORGULLO pasó de un evento de un día en el año 2011 y ahora es un festival de un mes a partir del 4 de septiembre con eventos literarios, ARTNights, vitrinas musicales y el LEGENDS Ball gala, culminando el sábado, 3 de octubre con el festival gratuito al aire libre ORGULLO Carnaval, este año en su nuevo y mucho más grande hogar en Museum Park de la ciudad de Miami. Mucha música, comida, diversión, cultura, escritores y Pabellones de Esctirtores, Cultura, Elevate…y mucho más. Todo esto solo es posible con talento increíble, voluntarios y asociaciones comunitarias. “Nuestra asociación con “Coalition|Coalición Unida” es una parte importante de la programación de The Betsy con la comunidad LGBT”, comento el dueño de The Betsy- South Beach Hotel, Jonathan Plutzik. “Este año nuestro programa de “Orgullo Literario” invita a miembros de los GSA’s regionales (Asociaciones de Estudiantes Gay) de escuelas secundarias, a leer y presentar un taller dentro del Festival. El taller va a recalcar el trabajo de una de las más distinguidas escritoras jóvenes del país, dijo E.E. Charlton-Trujillo ganadora del premio prestigioso “Stonewall Award.”
“Los artistas han encontrado un hogar en los eventos de Celebrate ORGULLO.” El orgullo es la música, la cultura y el arte envuelto con amor… uniendo a nuestra comunidad “, dijo la cantante EnVee.” Las noches de arte ARTNights en el Betsy se han convertido en una tradición de la celebración de ORGULLO.¨

As the Celebrate ORGULLO Festival enters its 5th year, we take a look at what the only Hispanic LGBT Pride festival In So. Fla. means to the community, why we need it and what it gives back and what to expect during its month long celebration.
We started ORGULLO as a way to showcase Hispanic LGBT talent, pride and heritage in the community, providing a vehicle that all of the community could come together and celebrate, unify and work together at. It is a way to break down stereotypes and bring all of South Florida together. No other festival does this like Celebrate ORGULLO. Unity Coalition|Coalicion Unida, is the regions first and only Latino|Hispanic|LGBTQ organization in South Florida advancing equality since 2002, and we are also the producers of Celebrate ORGULLO. One hundred percent of our profit goes right back into our community for workshops, assistance, and our LGBT College Scholarship program.
Celebrate ORGULLO went from a one day event in 2011 and is now a month long festival from September 4th through Saturday, October 3rd and it now features literary events, ARTNights, musical showcases, the annual LEGENDS Ball, and it all culminates with the ORGULLO Carnaval free outdoor festival, this year moving to a new and much larger home at downtown Miami’s Museum Park. It will include tons of music, food, fun, Cultura, Writers & Elevate Pavilions, and much more. All of this is possible thanks to the amazing talent, the volunteers and our community partnerships. “Our partnership with Unity Coaltion|Coalición Unida is an important part of The Betsy hotel’s programming in the LGBT space,” said The Betsy-South Beach owner, Jonathan Plutzik. “This year our Orgullo Literary program invites high school students from regional GSA’s (Gay Student Associations) to read, and presents a Festival workshop by one of the country’s leading Young Adult Writers, EE Charlton-Trujillo, winner of the prestigious Stonewall Award,” he said.
