fellow designer whose work is not only GORGEOUS but it’s also AWESOME! His name is Abraham D. Levy Xtravaganza and when I sat down to start our phone call I had no clue that I was about to embark on a journey that I absolutely could not prepare for…
Abraham is not only a talented designer but he is also one of the nicest guys around. He’s so giving; helping others around him comes second-nature to him, as is evident by taking a look at his Facebook page (facebook.com/abraham.xtravaganza) where he even shares some of the textile manipulation techniques he uses when constructing his battle armor (his best-selling piece).
Abraham was born in the Dominican Republic but he has lived in the United States since he was nine years old. At the age of 16, he enrolled at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology and at 18, he and his former business partner (Julie Jules) were selling their label (Abraham D. Levy for Julie Jules) in Patricia Fields, where the merchandise flew off the shelves!
Since then Abraham has gone on to work independently and has quite a roster of celebrity clients, including Jennifer Hudson, Nicki Minaj, and Nina Flowers, to name a few. Abraham’s 
work has also been featured in some Spike Lee films. Despite all of his success, he stays grounded and currently lives in a single-family home with his mother, where he has converted the basement into his studio.
As Abraham and I got better acquainted, there were some funny similarities in Abraham’s path to my own journey that made our conversation feel like I was reconnecting with an old friend. For instance, we both are Georgie’s Alibi “Alumni”! (Abraham tended bar at the St. Petersburg location from 2006-2012.) He also tended bar and worked as an actor in New York City. During his time in New York, he met and became a part of the House of Xtravaganza, and was even included in the filming of the iconic “Paris is Burning”.
Abraham is self-described as an avant-garde designer and his design aesthetic is sculptured, dimensional, and simply over the top! His battle armor takes roughly 10 days’ time to complete and starts around $850 for a three-piece set.
