Now that our region is getting hot and humid again, we may want to get away from our beautiful beaches from time to time, and enjoy some good entertainment in an air-conditioned theater.
Well… good news is that there will be a lot to choose from this season!
Here’s a list of all films opening this summer. There will be something for everyone, from highly anticipated movies like Toy Story 4, Godzilla, Once upon a time in Hollywood, or The Lion King to some smaller productions that can very well surprise us.

- Toy Story 4
Release Date: June 21.
Fun for the kids within us!
In this new chapter of the saga directed by Josh Cooley, Tom Hanks, Joan Cusack, Tim Allen and Tony Hale are back, as Sherriff Woody and Buzz Lightyear reach out to Bo Peep in their mission to bring Andy back and try to rescue Forky.
- Child’s Play
Release Date: June 21.
So, did anyone ever forget Chucky the doll?
Watch out, he is back!
In this new version, Chucky is a high-tech doll, and things start to get really wrong when he starts rejecting the software and goes off killing. Of course, the young mom who gave the new toy to her son didn’t have a clue of its creepy nature.
Mark Hamill lends his voice to Chucky, and Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, Gabriel Bateman are featured in Lars Klevberg’s film.
- Annabelle Comes Home
Release Date: June 26.
Another evil doll returns… Annabelle.
Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson star as Ed and Lorraine Warren, the paranormal investigators who have managed to lock the doll in their own artifacts’ room. But Annabelle will wake up other evil spirits in the room to terrify the Warrens’ ten year-old daughter.
Along with Farmiga and Wilson, Gary Dauberman’s film features McKenna Grace and Madison Iseman.

Release Date: June 28.
What would have happened if The Beatles never existed?
This is what this young musician finds out after he recovers from an accident, but the fact is that he still knows all of their great melodies.
Danny Boyle directs the film, featuring Lily James, Himesh Patel, Ed Sheeran and Kate McKinnon.
- Spider-Man: Far From Home
Release Date: July 2.
Tom Holland (II) plays Peter Parker in the new Spider-Man movie, where he meets Nick Fury during a European trip with friends. But Fury has a goal: he wants Parker to join forces with Mysterio to defeat some menacing creatures.
Jon Watts directed the film, and the cast includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya and Cobie Smulders.
- Midsommar
Release Date: July 3.
A young couple vacationing in a Swedish town finds a local cult in this horror film directed by Ari Aster after the successful “Hereditary”. Cast includes Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor, Vilhelm Blomgran and William Jackson Harper.
- The Art of Self-Defense
Release Date: July 12.
Trying to protect himself, a shy guy starts taking karate classes, only to find that things are very different after his graduation.
The film by Riley Stearns features a cast with Jesse Eisenberg, Alessandro Nivola and Imogene Poots.
- Bridges
Release Date: July 12.
New York City goes into a lockdown to prevent a couple of cop killers from escaping, after a detective reveals a conspiracy. Cast includes Chadwick Boseman, Sienna Miller, Keith David and Stephan James. Directed by Brian Kirk.
- Crawl
Release Date: July 12.
A house in Florida becomes a deadly trap for this woman during a hurricane, when the flooding brings a bunch of hungry alligators in. Directed by Alexandre Aja, the film stars Kaya Scodelario, Ross Anderson and Barry Pepper.
- Stuber
Release Date: July 12.
Are you an Uber driver? Beware!
The passenger on this comedy is a cop looking for a killer, and the driver ends up being part of the trouble.
Michael Dowse’s film features Kumail Nanjiani, Dave Bautista, Betty Gilpin and Karen Gillan.
- The Farewell
Release Date: July 12.
Featured in the Sundance Festival, in Lulu Wang’s film a woman has a hard time when her family in China decides to organize a fake wedding to reunite everyone instead of telling their grandmother that she will die soon.
Starring Awkwafina, the cast includes Tzi Ma, Shuzhen Zhou and Diana Lin.
- The Lion King
Release Date: July 19.
In Disney’s newest “live-action” production, an incredible cast recreates the beloved animated story.
After his success with “The Jungle Book,” in this film Director Jon Favreau features stars like Donald Glover, James Earl Jones, Beyoncé, John Oliver, and Seth Rogen.
Without any doubt, this one will be a must-see!
- Once upon a time in Hollywood
Release Date: July 26.
And here’s another highly-anticipated blockbuster.
In 1969, an actor and his stunt double are hoping to make a name in the industry, as the murders by Charles Manson and his family make the headlines around the world.
Leonardo Di Caprio and Brad Pitt star in Quentin Tarantino’s film, with a cast that also includes Margot Robbie and Al Pacino.
- Brahms: The Boy II
Release Date: July 26.
As a new family moves into the Heelshire Mansion, their young son becomes the new friend of intriguing porcelain doll Brahms.
The film is directed by William Brent Bell, and the cast features Katie Holmes, Ralph Ineson, Christopher Convery, and Owain Yeoman.
- Dora and the Lost City of Gold
Release Date: August 2.
In this first movie adventure, Dora has to rescue her parents in an Incan city, lost in the South American jungle.
With Isabella Moner, Michael Peña, and Eva Longoria, the film is directed by James Bobin.
- Fast & Furious presents: Hobbs & Shaw
Release Date: August 2.
Dwayne Johnson is back in this new high-action sequel along with Jason Statham. Idris Elba is Federal Agent Luke Hobbs, who will join Deckard Shaw to defeat a super-powered evil character.
Cast also includes: Helen Mirren, and is directed by David Leitch.
- The New Mutants
Release Date: August 2.
In this X-Men-related Marvel film, young mutants try to escape the creepy place where they are secretly kept. Cast features Anya Taylor-Johnson and Masie Williams.
- Brian Banks
Release Date: August 9.
The film is based on the true story of a former NFL player who spent almost six years in prison after facing a false accusation of rape during his junior year of high school.
Tom Shadyac’s film features a cast that includes Aldis Hodge, Greg Kinnear, Melanie Liburd and Sherri Shepherd.
- The Kitchen
Release Date: August 9.
Three wives of Irish mobsters take over their husbands’ businesses after their death in New York during the 70’s.
The film stars Melissa McCarthy, Elisabeth Moss, Domhnall Gleeson and Tiffany Haddish, and is directed by Andrea Berlo.
- Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark
Release Date: August 9.
Guillermo del Toro produced this horror movie, based on popular children’s novels. The secrets of a strange book, written a long time ago by a troubled girl, are revealed to a group of teenagers that find it in 1968.
Directed by André Øvredal, the film’s cast includes Zoe Margaret Colletti, Austin Abrams, Gabriel Rush, and Michael Garza.
- Blinded by the Light
Release Date: August 14.
A teenager from a conservative Pakistani family in 1987 becomes a big fan of the music of Bruce Springsteen in this musical comedy film. Directed by Gurinder Chadha. Cast: Viveik Kalra, Hayley Atwell, Kulvinder Ghir, and Rob Brydon.
- Where’d You Go, Bernadette
Release Date: August 16.
As her troubled mother suddenly goes missing, a teenage girl desperately tries to find out what happened to her.
Directed by Richard Linklater, the film is based on the novel of the same name. Cast includes Cate Blanchett, Billy Crudup, Kristen Wiig, and Emma Nelson (IV).
- 47 Meters Down: Uncaged
Release Date: August 16.
Four teenage girls in an underwater cave encounter a group of sharks in this sequel of the 2017 film.
Directed by Johannes Roberts. Cast includes Sophie Nélisse, Corinne Fox, Sistine Rose Stallone, and Brianne Tju.
- The Angry Birds Movie 2
Release Date: August 16.
The Angry Birds are back, and the Green Pigs are still here in the new adventure, featuring Rachel Bloom, Sterling K. Brown, Awkwafina, Nicki Minaj, along with stars Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage, Bill Hader, and Leslie Jones. Directed by Thurop Van Orman.
- Good Boys
Release Date: August 16.
This teenage comedy features the adventure of three friends trying to replace a broken drone, while one of them wants to learn how to kiss a girl.
Cast: Jacob Tremblay, Keith L. Williams, Molly Gordon, and Brady Noon. Directed by Gene Stupnitsky.

Release Date: August 16.
An ex-convict helps the FBI to take down a mobster in an undercover mission, but the events bring him back to prison. Directed by Andrea Di Stefano, the cast features Joel Kinnaman, Rosamund Pike, and Clive Owen.
- Playmobil: The Movie
Release Date: August 16.
A girl must rescue her brother when she is transported to a magical world in this animated movie, starring Daniel Radcliffe, Anya Taylor-Joy, Gabriel Bateman, and Meghan Trainor. Directed by Lino DiSalvo.
- Angel Has Fallen
Release Date: August 23.
Under the accusation of attempting to assassinate the President, Secret Service agent Mike Banning needs to clear his reputation.
The film stars are Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Lance Reddick. Directed by Ric Roman Waugh.
- Overcomer
Release Date: August 23.
A basketball coach helps a young athlete in this inspirational sports drama.
Directed by Alex Kendrick. Cast: Alex Kendrick, Priscilla C. Shirer, Shari Rigby, and Cameron Arnett.
- It: Chapter Two
Release Date: September 6.
The “Losers Club” of Derry reunites after 27 years to fulfill their promises of ending evil, and they bring back the creepy clown again.
Directed by Andy Muschietti. The main characters are played by a cast including James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Jay Ryan, Bill Hader, James Ransone, Andy Bean, and Isaiah Mustafa.
- The Goldfinch
Release Date: September 13.
After surviving a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art where he loses his mother, a young boy is taken in by a rich family in the Upper East Side, who will later reunite him with his alcoholic father.
Directed by John Crowley. Cast features Ralph Fiennes, Hobie Ansel Elgort, Theodore Decker, and Aneurin Barnard.
- Hustlers
Release Date: September 13.
A group of ambitious former strip club employees join forces to get on their Wall Street clients. The film is inspired by a New York Magazine article by Jessica Pressler. Directed by Lorene Scafaria. Cast includes Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Cardi B, Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer, Mercedes Rue, and Julia Stiles.
33: Ad Astra
Release Date: September 20.
In a mission to the outer limits of the solar system, astronaut Roy McBride tries to solve a mystery that threatens the survival of planet Earth, and also find his missing father. Directed by James Gray, the film is starred by Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, and Donald Sutherland.
- Downtown Abbey
Release Date: September 20.
Many of the original TV cast members are present in this first movie version of the period British drama. Directed by Michael Engler, the film was produced by the series creator Julian Fellowes.
- Rambo V: Last Blood
Release Date: September 20.
Announced to be the final adventure of the iconic hero, the film directed by Adrian Grunberg features Rambo in his fight against a Mexican cartel. Stars are Sylvester Stallone, Paz Vega, and Oscar Jaenada.
- Black and Blue
Release Date: September 20.
Corrupted narc officers are murdering a drug dealer in New Orleans, when a young officer captures the event with her body cam. She escapes an execution, but the narcs blame her for the murder and she ends up hunted by both narcs and drug dealers. Directed by Deon Taylor. Cast features Naomie Harris, Frank Grillo, Reid Scott, Beau Knapp, and Tyrese Gibson.
