Spencer’s Corner Bar: The Newest Hangout on Wilton Drive

Homemade Meatloaf

Just a few month ago, Spencer’s Corner Bar became one of the newest hangouts on Wilton Drive. Located in the former Thirteen and Sea & Olive location, Spencer’s is a place to drink, eat or just hangout with friends. When owners David and Ray decided to open, they selected their cherished dog’s name Spencer as the moniker for their new endeavor. You can see his portrait, drinking a martini, displayed proudly watching over daily business.

The interior is open, clean and modern and features about a dozen tables and a huge bar with stools. The seating capacity is more than doubled by the addition of the beautiful covered patio, which also boasts another full bar.

Recently, I stopped in on a Wednesday evening for dinner and to catch my friend Dee Dee Van Carter’s cabaret show. She is there every week hosting an old school two-hour variety show that features a rotating cast of drag performers as well as live vocalists. The show was great and brought in quite the crowd.

Even though they feature a modest menu, there is a little something for everyone at Spencer’s. It’s pretty much the same menu for lunch and dinner, although dinner entrees are beefed up a bit. Be sure to try the Shrimp Po’Boy and the Market Chicken sandwich, only available at lunch.

There are more than a half dozen starters to pick from: Shrimp Cocktail, Chicken Wings, Hummus, Sweet Corn Fritters and Wild Pork Wings just to name a few. Numerous salads like their Corner Bar Salad with mixed field greens, mandarin orange, English cucumber, sun-dried cranberries, toasted almonds, feta and a house-made raspberry vinaigrette as well as traditional Caesar and Wedge salads offer lighter options for those watching their waistlines. Indulge in a heavier meal with a variety of hot sandwiches, chicken dishes, pastas, salmon and of course their famous meatloaf, just like mom used to make.

For dinner, we ordered a couple of appetizers and entrees and shared everything. We selected the Mozzarella Half Medallion: gooey cheese moons lightly breaded and served with warm house made marinara sauce hit the spot. The Homestyle Potato Cakes were amazing too. This creamy fried potato goodness on a bed of dill sauce took me back to the time of delicious food at Grandma’s kitchen table.

Dinner portions are huge and served up blue plate special style with a meat and two sides. The homemade Meatloaf is comfort food at its best. Made with lean ground chuck and topped with brown gravy with velvety whipped potatoes and sautéed veggies, this dish was the highlight of the meal! The Pork Chops rounded out our dinner selections. Two large, French cut bone-in pork chops, marinated in rosemary and grilled to perfection went great with a side of applesauce, rice and mixed seasoned vegetables.

Spencer’s Corner Bar is open for lunch daily from 11:30 am to 4 pm and dinner every night from 4 pm to 10 pm. The bar is open until 11 pm Sunday through Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday. Happy Hour prices run open to close everyday with $3.50 well, $4.50 house wine, $3 drafts and $3.50 bottled beers. Enjoy a frozen blender drink on the patio Wednesday through Friday starting at 5pm and Saturday and Sundays starting at 2pm.

Spencer’s is located at 2390 Wilton Drive in Wilton Manors, Florida. While reservations aren’t required, they are suggested on Wednesdays if you want to see the show. They can be made over the phone at 954-368-2558.
